    Fostex now has a BBS

Activate...! You have to activate your account by clicking on the link in your confirmation Email. It's a little quiet over there at the moment, but I'm sure it will pick up. I could spend all day checking on all the Forums I'm registered to now...! Dave.

    Which method of recording guitar

I always record direct via an effects unit, for a good crunchy rhythm I always double up with a slightly different sound, then pan one hard left and the other hard right. Works for me.... Dave.

    recording solo album

I'm recording a solo album, and I do everything myself. Take in all that's been said before, get the click track right first. I tend to lay down a rhythm guitar next (as a guide as much as anything) then work on the drums. Do the vocals last. It can be hard work and time consuming, but try...

the 24 bit V.S. 16 bit war!!!!! who won?????

Kick arse post...! That was just great LittleDog. That is the best explanation of 16/24 bit that I've heard in a long old time. Well, I have my feet planted squarly in the 16bit world (I went for the Fostex VF160). And what I'm doing is sounding just great, and all a great price..! Dave.

    VF-16 Unbalanced Master Channel

Hmmm... I'm not sure what the problem is. But I've found a rather strange quirk when bouncing down with my VF160. The two sterio tracks that I have bounced to, seem to be the wrong way round (with lefts going to the right track and rights going to the left). It's not the end of the world...

is this even possible? It sure as hell better be...

I do it all the time... I record at home on my own, and I obviously have to lay everything down one instrument at a time. It is very difficult for me to put down the drums first without some sort of guide as to where I am in a song. So I tend to record rhythm and clean guitars to a click...

    Realtime effeects?

Hey Rockfish - I sent you an Email before reading this thread. In answer to your second question here I think you could probably use the desk as an Effects Unit, if that's what you were after. Cheers, Dave.

    considering a VF160

I've had one for a week... I've had my VF160 for about a week and it is kicking my arse all over the place. Now, I'm just doing my own home recording, just for me and I've previously been using Cakewalk. Whether any of that has a bearing on my views or not - I don't know. I'm finding that...

need help on yamaha electronic drums

Hmmm which kit is it...? Is this the DTXpress, with the reddy-orange rack looking brain...? Or is it the DTX V2...? If it's the DTX V2, I can help you because I have one (and it's great). I know nothing about the DTXpress brain though - sorry... Look for a "Voice" button, that's where you...

    Just bought a VF160

Thanks again... Ok thanks, keep the advice coming... I was playing around with Punch In / Out last night, I have a Footswich and it works a treat, but you have to set automatic ones up in order to delete sections of tracks, and the whole process seems a little random. I managed it once, but...

    Just bought a VF160

Thanks for the replies... Yeah, cheers for the input guys, yeah just two effects, but the whole bouncing down to another track with the effect on is definately worth looking into. Hopefully I'll have some time to start work on a song for real this weekend, I'll let you all know how things work...

    Just bought a VF160

Finally got it... Thanks to UPS really dropping the ball, I finally got my studio yesterday, and had a play last night. It seems to be suprisingly easy to use. I just played around with a few tracks, adding effects, panning etc... There's only one draw back I can see so far (althought...

Has anyone used the VF-160 yet...? I have one in the mail, I would be interested to hear what people are thinking of it... Cheers, Dave.

    Best Drummer=Neil Peart Hands Down!!

Check out Dream Theater's later stuff, it's much more accessable than their first cd, and Mike seems to be getting better and better. As for Peart, well Rush have a new album comming out soon (their first in ages), so we'll see how he's sounding on that. I wanted to add another thumbs up for...

Best drum set for home studio

Thumbs up for an Ekit...! I have the Yamaha DTX Ekit, and for a home studio it works out really well... It is very, very hard to get a good drum sound in a bedroom or wherever, but with the Ekit - no problems. You just have to convince the drummer to use it..! Dave.

Is anyone using ProAudio 9 with Window ME?

Windows XP...! I use XP at work and I've found it to be a kick arse OS - no problems. I'm using Cake PA9 at home on Win98 at the moment, but I'm gonna get a new PC soon, and I was wondering if anyone's had problems with PA9 and XP...? Thanks in advance... Dave.

    punch-in recording

Hmm... what do you mean...? Ok, well you can fade in / out on PA9. I'm not sure how that would help me if I have to punch in slap bang in the middle of a guitar riff... Could you elaborate. How do you use Fade Ins to get rid of punch in pops...? Cheers, Dave.
