    So what's wrong with C3000?

Yea you're right, now that I hear you say it. I've never listened to a 3000 so I had just forgotten. As a matter of fact, Harvey took my 3000B and did a listening test and review of it when I still had it. I think his comment about it was something to the effect of "I thought it was impossible...

    So what's wrong with C3000?

I've never listened to a 3000 but I had a 3000B which is supposed to sound better than a 3000. To me, the vocal sound was comparable to someone chewing up glass. Taylor

MXL 604, Anybody try one yet?

reshp1, Do you have any information on this? Is it a hard mod to do? Can a drunk monkey do it? If so, I might tackle it for my 2 603's. Taylor

    Just bought another M260

I love the 260. I've got two of them. For anyone living in the States, or outside too that that matter, I highly recommend the Steven Sank RCA ribbon mod on this mic. Taylor

Rode NTK - Should you upgrade the tube?

What sounds better about it, to you? I would say they sounded slightly different, and I do mean slightly. I wouldn't characterize one as better than the other. Just curious as to what you liked better about A. Taylor

Rode NTK - Should you upgrade the tube?

No real appreciable difference, IMO. Definitely not a $99 difference. Try a $10 tube. :) Tubes can sometimes make a pretty big difference, it's just that these two particular tubes sound the same in your mic. Taylor

Looking to get a new mic for vocals and guitar. $0-800 please recommend!

Richie, You're right. If it works go for it. I think the 414 was really a staple in the days when analog ruled. They say it was designed to work well with the inherent high frequency taming qualities of analog tape. Taylor

If his voice does sound better on that 414, I'll bet he doesn't have a very nasaly voice. Taylor

Or try to get one and listen to it before you buy it. They aren't particularly cheap for the harsh sound they provide.

    Vocal Mic

There's lot's of good suggestions here, but if you're looking for the "most versatile" mic, the 57 isn't a bad choice. It might not be the best for anything, but probably won't suck on much of anything. Or you might consider the SM7. You can find one for within your price range. I don't have an...

Dang, I thought I got a good price one my TLM-103 from tubedude, until I checked in here and saw this old thread. There I see this thread that tube started 2 years ago, and see my stinking 103 for 100 bucks less than what he sold it to me for. :D Oh well I can't complain, I got a good...

Looking to get a new mic for vocals and guitar. $0-800 please recommend!

You probably won't find another mic that is more universally consented among the pro audio community to be harsh and unuseable. foreverdown, it might be helpful if you tell what sources you plan to use the mic on. vocals? what instruments? Taylor

    Dynamic and Condensor Differences!

You might start by getting a loaf of bread, plenty of lunchmeat, a six pack or two of 2 liter soda's and a couple of pounds of coffee. Then get really comfortable and read the sticky "big thread" above. The short answer, IMO, is that Condensors are generally less forgiving. They're more likely...
