    What I need

Basically a regular keyboard just lets you play sounds, but a workstation will let you build songs from those sounds as well. Maybe someone else can give a more precise definition.

    What I need

Have you looked at an Alesis Micron? It's a fairly inexpensive workstation keyboard. I like mine but I don't really use it much like a workstation.

    What I need

As other people have said, you could probably program your bass using a synthesized bass guitar tone or other synth bass sounds. If you play guitar more than keyboard you may either want to get a bass or you could try pitch shifting your guitar. Never really tried that but I think someone...

    line6 toneport/gearbox question

Yeah, I looked into it a little more and I may have been mistaken. I don't know if you can use it without the usb plugged in.

    line6 toneport/gearbox question

If I'm not mistaken, you can buy just the gearbox plug-in by itself.

Where do I start? (recording equipment)

Another quick suggestion for you is to pick carefully where you post stuff like this on here. This specific forum is mostly reserved for equipment reviews and specific recommendations. Being as that was your first post, the "newbies" forum would be a much better place to post this. You are more...

Where do I start? (recording equipment)

I use ACID for my DAW and have a Line 6 pedal that does effects, amp modeling, and works as an interface for my computer. ACID works really well for looping anything .Editing is a breeze when properly aligned to the track. You could try something like a Line 6 Toneport for an interface which...

will this work for a recording computer?

Is it running XP or Vista... or something else? I've found that a gig of RAM is enough to get started when running XP but Vista doesn't work well running less than 2. Maybe someone else has a different opinion but that's me.

    Helps!?.. I'm screwed.

It seems to me like you've got other issues you need to deal with. Spending a bunch of money doesn't really seem like the answer. Tell your guitarist/singer to cool it on the alcohol till after your set and for that matter, tell him to turn his shit down if the alcohol thing doesn't...

    big or small cym-balls

A good friend and former bandmate has a 26" ride. It's ridiculous. Anyone on here got something like that? I've never seen a ride like that besides his.

Hi! I'm new and I have a question

http://cgi.ebay.com/Korg-PXR4-Pandora-pxr-4-Digital-Multi-Track-Recorder_W0QQitemZ160270234943QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160270234943&_trkparms=72%3A552%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 I've had one of these for a while now and at the price it would probably suit you...

    Drum programming ghost notes etc

I just stumbled on to this post but I have to say, that is some very helpful info. For me anyways.

    Vocal Booth Plans...

I have no idea whether that info is helpful to whoever started this but it's good enough for me. It seems as the person who posted the question in the first place doesn't care enough to post back anyways.

    Vocal Booth Plans...

Good call... just cut off the part of his post that asked the specifics so you don't look like a dick.

    Vocal Booth Plans...

I think that was a bit harsh. It's not like he asked what the book was about. He asked a specific question about the book. Have you read the book? If you haven't I think it would be best to not comment on it. If you have I think that you could have been more helpful in your response.

    Cutting Corners

The funny thing about all of this is that I was never even really looking for advice. I was actually just hoping to start a discussion about creative things people do with their home studios (yes, to save a few bucks maybe). Just curious more than anything.

    Cutting Corners

I'm glad we're on the same page now because that's just the type of stuff I was talking about. I'll be sure to check out the Studio Building forum and that web site as well. Thanks again for the feedback. I'd still love to hear some other ideas people have tried.

    Cutting Corners

Well, I appreciate the response back and apologize for taking what you said the wrong way. I'm not trying to rival professional recordings. I just know that there are a lot of people who do creative things to get just a little better quality. The most obvious one I can think of is the old home...

    Cutting Corners

Thanks for the response. This is what I was looking for. Specifically the second half. I would really like to know more in this area. By the way, this is all out of curiosity. I'm not actively trying to cut corners. I'm fairly happy with my recording quality on minimal gear and experience. I'm...

    Cutting Corners

I'm curious as to some of the things other people do to save a little dough. What are the more acceptable and effective ways you cut corners?
