Let me do a guitar solo for you!

Self Help is the best song I've heard on this site to date. :)

    388 song

In the spirit of the moment, here's a more recent mix of my song with keys. http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/22173_superbeatballer1.mp3

    388 song

Dave, your music sounds damn good. I can't figure out how you squeeze so much high end out of 7 1/2 i.p.s. Btw, I went through your catalog and didn't see any Beach Boys. Will you ever take a crack at Pet Sounds? Ryan

    388 song

Thanks for the listen Daniel. I didn't use dbx so the errors were probably from running too far into the red. I'm a little red in the face seeing this bumped up after six months. I've learned to use the 388 a bit better since then, and I definitely still stand by my belief in it's usefullness.

    388 song

Whoa, this one came out of the cellar. This was my maiden voyage with the 388, and I think I was driving the levels too high. I used 57 on snare into an rca ba31 pre, kick was d112 into the tascam, overhead was a rode nt1 through an Ampex mx-10. Now that I listen back, I recall using a low...

    388 tracking problem

This is a common problem that I've dealt with a couple times. Try reseating the two play/rec cards nearest the rear panel of the machine. You'll only have to remove the six phillips bolts to get to the cards. The rear left card is assigned to channels one and three. The rear right card is...

Do drums has to be always 1st?

You could always make a scratch guitar track played to the metronome, record the drums, and then record your keeper guitars.

    388 help please!!!

Thanks. I won't hesitate to deal with Tascam parts in the future. They were extremely courteous and helpful, and I received the parts in 2 days after ordering. :)

    388 help please!!!

I'm glad to say that the new belt did the trick. The high end is alot more focused and pleasing to the ear now. I went ahead and put a new pinch roller on while I was at it, and this made an even bigger difference. It's like the machine has a new lease on life. I'm very glad! BTW, the guy at...

It'll take one afternoon of collecting cans or 2 mowed lawns to get one of those. They sound pretty good too, so consider it "sweat" equity.

    388 help please!!!

I just opened up the bottom minutes ago, but I'm unsure of how a good belt should look and feel. Mine seems weak and worn, and when I apply a gentle amount of finger pressure there is alot of give. How should a usable belt feel? What should I look for? Thanks again for all the help. Ryan

    388 help please!!!

I just noticed it's taking quite awhile for my machine to ramp up to full ff/rw speeds, so I think it is the belt. Does anyone know if belts from any other Tascam models work with the 388?

    388 help please!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I think I will replace the belt if they're still available through Tascam parts. If not, does anyone know where a comparable belt can be had?

    388 help please!!!

I'm no expert either, not even remotely close. In fact, I hadn't thought of the slippage possibility so I'll check that now. If there is a slippage or tension problem, could it be remedied by a novice without risk of further damage? I would like to avoid lugging the beast to the shop if at all...

    388 help please!!!

I've been trying to push through a project, so I've neglected my tape path a bit. I cleaned and conditioned tonight, but there's only a slight improvement. The warble on high frequencies in quiet passages still persists. I did notice my right tension arm is bouncing up and down slightly. Not...

    388 help please!!!

One more thing, the warbling becomes more noticable near the end of the reel.

    388 help please!!!

I'm starting to hear a mild warbling sound on playback. I notice it mostly on plucked/sustained high notes on the guitar and cymbal tails. I can hear it through my cans and monitors, so I'm assuming the problem stems from a playback mechanism and is not a byproduct of my less than perfect...

How does this song hit you?

Good vox. The song has a Pinback vibe to it. It sounds like you encountered a fair amount of digital distortion somewhere along the line though.
