I saw those, but I want a little more flexibility.

I tried every combination of inline/attenuator/pad in addition to searches at the big online stores.

I have a pre without level control and need a pad, but my searches are yielding very little. Does anyone know where to buy these? I'd prefer one with variable attenuation. Thanks :)

Run the line out from your DI into your computer's soundcard. Your soundcard(even if it's stock) contains converters. You may need some adapters though, as most stock soundcards have an 1/8 in. jack input. You can adjust the soundcard to receive a line level signal in your control...

I suspect the 414 with its multiple patterns and rolloff/pad capabilities would be a better choice if you're looking for one mic to perform multiple tasks. It's one of those time tested studio standard type mics. I doubt you'll get as much mileage out of a baby bottle.

I recently dropped a few bills on a UA solo 610, and I can say that it definitely excels on vocals.
