Since I was a kid, I always wanted to start a studio to record people. I was just so fascinated watching all these behind the scenes clips of artists, and watching the engineer work. But nowadays, it doesn't seem like I should even try, b/c it's not profitable anymore. Not that I want to do it...
This sounds great!
I'm going to be out of town from July - August...are you going to have your courses archived so people like me who won't be here, or people who just stumble across it can catch up? Also, how long do you think the whole course will be? I was about to drop $1500 on a course...
would that layering just increase the volume of the guitar? would it be the same if you just turned down everything else and upped the master? just curious, i'm gonna try it out right now b/c it sounds like a good plan.
hmmm...can't right click in windows media, and can't find anything resembling a tools section. I tried looking in quicktime and safari, but didn't find anything either. I use a Mac, maybe you have a PC? Thanks though. Any other suggestions?
I can play music just fine in cubase and in iTunes. However, if I try playing mp3s or videos in safari, quicktime, windows media, the sound plays through my powerbook's internal speakers. I have the firepod set as the deafult sound card in the audio section in system preferences. I also have it...
giraffe, thanks for the replies. I tried searching, but couldn't find exactly what i needed, ya know? I have a question about limiting...should I apply it to the entire mix or each individual track? Any links on how to use limitng effectively? thanks again.
yeah, there was some eq, but I took them out, and was still in the +15. I've listened to some mixes people have put up here that were unmastered, and I don't see how they can get that volume w/o clipping.
Mine was $500 and came with free shipping. There was another place that did it for $540 +Free shipping + sm57. Another with free sm58 or senheiser headphones.
For most of my band's songs, I record around 20+ tracks. When I'm tracking, the meters never go in the red, and seldom in the yellow. However, when I'm mixing, and everything is still at zero (is that unity gain?), meaning I haven't boosted or lowered any levels, the output meters read +15db. I...
FWIW, I love my atm25 on my kick. Gives a nice sound, and it's easy to place. Can be had new for about $140. There are places trying to sell it for $200, but you can pricematch with MF or some other big name place if you feel th others are too sketchy. Try Humbuckersmusic.com.
Yeah, there are some going on eBay with some other name stamped on them. Although, I've heard that the mic actually sounds good, though have not heard it in person.
If you pay $90, you're paying too much. Look around, I got mine for $60 new from GC. It was a price match, but I can't remember where I got it from. And for what it's worth, I use the 57 and an SP B1 on my amp, then blend the two. It sounds pretty good (record mainly distorted). good luck!
Just picked up an AT4040 new + free shipping for $199 on eBay. I just got it, so all I've done is plugged it in to see if it works...and it does! I did a comparison with my v67g, and was dissappointed to hear no real significant differences. But again, I only did a very weak vocal test where I...
One last thing...I do a lot of mobile recording...DJL, that flight case looks great, but if I don't have the original boxes, foam, etc, what would you recommend to keep the mics from moving around in there while I'm carrying it?
just out of curiousity, do you guys clean up everything after a session? Put all your mics away? or do you leave them out for the next session, whether it be 1 day or a week from then?
I like that jar idea! I would be worried about knocking them around in there. Slapping against that glass is...
just to let you know, I just received my firepod from Musicians Friend, brand new, for $500. Just gotta know how to talk to them :) And it works flawlessly. Good luck!
ahhh, good to know.
Well, I want to record mainly rock, but there's gonna be a lot of acoustic stuff in there too. I wanted something with digital outs, just so I can plug it into my firepod and add 2 extra channels, so I was looking at the apogee mini me or the grace lunatec. But, if I'm gonna...
I was just wondering, a grace 101 is around $565, a 201 is $1865. As a newbie looking to get his first "serious" pre-amp (want 2 channels for stereo recording), what are the advatnages in getting the 201 over two 101s. Is it just the convenience of having it in 1 unit with one power supply? Thanks
Might be better off w/ a v67g. Don't get sucked in w/ the free shock mount and pop filter. I don't use a shockmount with mine (though my environment is different from yours) and I've used the nylon on a coat hanger for a few months. Sometimes, it actually sounds better than the pop filter I use...
