Would the mogami wire be worth the extra price for such a short distance? It's basically between the canare and mogami. Do people using patch bays use the quad cable for patch cables?
it's sounds like from what you're saying, needing the best quality i would go with the quad cable. So my next question is, why is the quad cable cheaper than the normal 2-conductor....doesn't make sense to me.
Alright...since this sounds so weird. I'll elaborate.
8 - pres to patch back
8 - patch back to RME in
8 - RME out to patch back
2 - RNC in/out
4 - stero joemeek comp.
4 - stereo delay in/out
2 - master out to mixer and then to monitors
8 - max for patching the front
And the grand total...
50 is probably a more plausible number. I'm setting up a patch bay for the first time. I have never had my gear patched before, so with 8 ins/8 outs, 8 pres, a couple compressors and effects, and patching, it's come to about 50. Is that unreasonable? I'm normalling most everything.

OK, i think i got it. The tip and the ring each get two of the 4 wires in a quad cable and the shielding goes to ground.
Is there an advantage to the quad cable. It seems like the connection would be more reliable, but why is the canare quad cable $0.01 less than the canare 2 conductor mic cable?
i do know how to solder, that's how this whole came about. I figured i might as well take advantage of that know-how and possibly get a better quality cable for the money.
These cables are going to be 1-2 ft patch cables to my patch bay. I recounted and figured the most important connections...
It looks like all the microphone cables are 2-conductor. Am i correct to assume the other connection is the grounding wire covering within the cable. Does anyone have any good links about making your own cables?
Thanks,
Brandon
I want to make about 100 TRS cables for my patch bay. i searched and found some good information, but i didn't quite understand which wire to buy.

that is the link for the bulk audio cable from markertek. If i wanted TRS cables...
You don't need Y cable, the RNC was made to use the insert in a specific way which is really convenient. Just plug a TRS cable in the insert of the VTB-1 and the other end in the MONO INPUT of the RNC. The send and return run through that same cable and it should be all good.
Hope this helps...
Ed,
I read up on montage and have a firm grasp on how to use it and the functions it's capable of. The audio montage is the exact utility i was in search of to create this crossfading. In regards to your comments on the 200 ms track start, i noticed that if you let wavelab create the...
When i say money is no issue, i meant the different between the RME and 1010. I wouldn't mind shelling out the extra money for the RME if it was worth. If money was truely not an issue, i don't think these two cards would even be on my list. I would head straight for apogee or something like...
is there a benefit to recording and mixing down with broadcast wave files rather than normal wave files? i know the broadcast files hold information like artist and song, but where would that be useful?

I was actually thinking about getting a joemeek vc1qcs from them. i emailed them a few times with some general questions. They always responded, but with a weird attitude. They've been on ebay for awhile, so i doubt they're scam you, but i don't know. I just got a weird vibe from their email...
Is there a huge difference in audible sound quality when switching from 44.1k to 96k? I've heard a couple say that it doesn't really sound that different, which taking up twice as much space on the hard drive and bogging down the processor even more.
any opinions would be appreciated...
By no means am i a professional recording engineer. I am someone who enjoys recording my own music and is interested getting the sound possible without spending loads of money. I'm about to venture into an 8i/o soundcard. Money is of no issue in this situation. I wouldn't mind going for the RME...
i thought about the crossfading thing, but that would almost fade in the track and fade out the earlier one. I don't want the beginnings to be different sounds or anything. I want it to be a constant note that holds throughout the end of the first track, and through the beginning of the...
