    Can you ID this mic?

It does, if, and it is a big if - that is a real recording? I work with lots of musical theatre performers, and am quite familiar with that piece and I do not know any who could deliver that song without their breathing being really quite extreme in the loud section. No big intakes of breath, no...

Sound Treatment Plan For Home Studio In The Attic?

I genuinely cannot say. 2" fibreglass is only effective on higher frequencies, rockwool is better and a bit more predictable, but if your problem is in the 4K and lower area, thin panels can be quite pointless. Bass traps, membrane absorbers and other treatment all fix problems - but different...

Sound Treatment Plan For Home Studio In The Attic?

You just need to assess the space and treat only what needs treating. With the 45 degree angles, there can often be strange 'focussing' happening that is head position specific. If this happens, you treat it. same with badly behaving bass - identify and treat.

How much does audio interface really matter?

I now have two Behringer 1820s - and absolutely do not find them plasticky sounding, hence why I bought the same one for my two studios. The mic preamps are less noisy than my old Presonus and Tascam units. That said, the cheap 30 quid chinese 2 channel one would not give itself away in a shoot...

Any such thing as reliable one-click software to fix digitized LP recordings?

I suppose perhaps you should look at it differently? Unless you intend to offer cleanup as a business, digitising your collection is a one-off. Anything you spend becomes obsolete when the job is done.

Broken XLR Cable - Potential for Damage?

Never, ever had phantom power damage any mic - condensers, dynamics or ribbons. Mics are designed to cope with this sort of thing, All those tales of doom and gloom have no real substance.

    Voice software

I think I might have shared this a few weeks ago? Needs polish but I like the style of the voice. Your Song

    How I not like AI

I took the track, plonked it into cubase and the duplicated it. It was a two minute job to align them so they play perfectly together, but with one slipped in time. I've never 'accidentally' managed to do that with a live drummer, ever. The brass stabs, the drums and the piano all appear to be...

8 kHz static noise in my audio recordings

Facebook serves me up new groups that are jaw dropping in their content and the membership 100% unshakable. It’s mutual backslapping and I’m sure some people are just taking the pizz. They just believe everything that’s said Luke the emperor’s new clothes!

Pro Tools Ignoring Piano Mod Wheel

Has pro tools ever responded to picth bend from any midi device? There is a MIDI filter feature that filters out pitchbend and other continuous controllers, or just certain ones. The other thing is to look at the MIDI data and see if there are pitchbend and mod controllers mingled in with the...

8 kHz static noise in my audio recordings

I looked at this usb unit and the claims were impressive but sort of understandable - but then I discovered the audiophool folk were also claiming it changed the sound for the better. This is where my sucker switch turned on. getting rid of hums, noise and this kind of thing is one thing, but...

    Why is activation so HARD!

I suspect the first thing any new audio company has to do is build security systems nowadays. That said - some just go over the top and make life hell. I've had cubase dongles for years - blue ones, maroon ones, then two different USB keys and now it's online - and to be honest the best it's...

I just bought a reel to reel, after all these years of telling everyone how stupid they are if they do it!

Well, it has been an epic tale. Ferrograph was a total mess, and the search continued. One other arrived, went up in smoke within five minutes, but l currently have working three models of Revoxes, starting with a tube G36, then an A77 snd a B77. The Tascam 32-4 went up in smoke a month or so...

Sooner or Later - quick limiting question

I thought the same as manslick - the waveform looks unlimited to me - I certainly cannot hear limiting.

8 kHz static noise in my audio recordings

Nowadays, RF interference from HF, as in Short Wave stations is getting less as they all seem to be closing down. The thing with these RF sources is the power is related to audio, as they are AM in the main, so interference has a music 'rhythm' to it. Constant interference tends to be from FM or...

Compressing Acoustic Guitars, and the dichotomy between what's said and what's done

I've recorded people who can barely play, and at the other end, a guy who refused the paint finish on his hand built guitar because he liked the tone at that point. Compression and EQ are not things that can have any kind of rule, because every player is different. They are simply tools to make...

8 kHz static noise in my audio recordings

I bought two of these - and they are great for isolating line level signals, or mics - xlr or jack in and out - just transformers and ground isolation. aliexpress

Cured - strange clicking when recording

I suppose its down to capacitance and impedance. It might not have huge issues with audio, bar guitars and long cables where it just performs like a filter, but with square waves, being squirted at ever increasing frequencies down cable, those nice square edges probably start to become curvy...

    Win 11 Taskbar

Raymond - I do understand people like Linux, but it also means so many really good apps are sort of banned from the club? Mac OS and Windows let you have access to amazing stuff I could not do without!

Cured - strange clicking when recording

Seeing the other recent post on interference, I thought I'd share this one. In my video studio there's an old mac with a firewire Presonus Firepod - I quite like this, and being rack mountable - it's useful. The PC runs Cubase, through a red 2 channel simple interface, you know the type, and two...
