    Sexy Microphone

Bling is for folks who don't know crap about good mics. The seriously best studio mics in the world all have a plain nickel finish, perhaps with some chrome. The most expensive mic (Ela M 251) comes in chrome, a small amount of black, and the body is hospital green.

The first mics are Neumann U87ai. You can tell by the XLR connector. The second mic is an Audio Technica 4060.

Ribbon mic between snare and hat

Not only the sensitivity, but the fact that ribbon mics are by nature figure 8 pickup pattern. If it were between the snare and hi-hat you would in essence be micing them both. It might work, but then again might not be a good idea. I suppose its worth a shot, but the high hat would and up in...

    Question About Small Tuchel Adapter

Tuchel (pronounced tu-kel) is a brand name, not a type of adapter. They are not all the same. They come in many different pin combinations. The small ones are an amphenol din style adapter. You could probably find what you're looking for here: http://www.alliedelec.com/ Or do a Google search...

Why the Brass Ring on an MXL-990

The brass ring increases the size of the pressure gradient, which makes it behave more like a large diaphragm capsule. A bit more musical and forgiving.

I`m getting a tin canny sound from my condenser mic

You guys didn't even touch on polarization voltages in relation to diaphragm/backplate(s)/diaphragm. BTW, who the hell is Mike?

    Known problem with Apex 460?

If you don't want a bright sounding mic, you're gonna need to change more than just the tube. Capsule change would make it go from meh, to voom! There are some circuit adjustments on the web, but most of the advice has become a mish-mosh of bad info. Stick with the basics and you'll be fine...

how good can you diy a mike ?

If you know where to get the right parts, and know what you're doing and looking for, you can build mics waaaaay better than any cheap Chinese made microphone.

how to open up a behringer c1 condenser to mod

Any chance of posting pics of the capsule? Some electrets use stock inexpensive capsules that can sound pretty good. A circuit mod might make a useful mic.

    Shure mic shootout...literally!

Nice to know that if I'm a pheasant performing in a corn field and its hunting season, I at least stand a chance of surviving by shielding myself with a 58.;)

need buying a condenser bright sound mic , any suggetsion please?????

The V67G is relatively dark for one of the MXL mics. Mics like the 2001, 63, and 69M are bright mics, albeit somewhat shrill.

AT 4040 Vs. Studio Projects C1

The reputation when the C1 came out was that it sounded like a U87. It didn't. In side by side comparisons the C1 had the U87's "vibe", but sounded scooped and had a pronounced high end, do to the fact it used a different circuit that the U87 with a K67 capsule. The 4040 will be more useful on...

    Is there a difference between...

Let's just say its a hobby of mine. I've been studying microphones and their technology for a quite a while now. I also have some friends "in the know", plus I keep my eyes open.

    HELP....I dropped the mic.

Drumsticks are one of the best tools ever to get dents out of mic grills. Which is somewhat ironic considering how they're usually guilty of inflicting said damage.

    Is there a difference between...

They're NOT the same mic. MXL used to have a relationship with 797 Audio, who made their original 2003 mic. They discontinued having 797 do manufacturing (or OEM) and had another place copy the general design. In truth, the newer "A" mic specs out better than the original. Its a bit flatter in...

New MXL mics - New Flagships

OK! Here's my official post for all the search engines! MXL cares very little about quality sound!! What you end up with might sound good as a single track, but put a bunch of them together and you'll certainly see where the flaws lie. They still use a capsule that produces inferior results...

New MXL mics - New Flagships

The "Revelation" doesn't even achieve figure 8! Just "Supercardioid"! I guess they couldn't find the extra voltage in the P.S.!:mad:
