    Acoustic Song, Final Mix?

My first stereo ever was a harmon kardon receiver and some marantz speakers, so yeah, harmon kardon counts in my book. Thanks for the feedback. Thanks for listening. Not sure what you're hearing on the panning. The guitar is panned right, the mando left. Bass is dead center, and lead vocal...

    Acoustic Song, Final Mix?

Thanks a lot. I see what you mean about the ending, but that might be hard to fix without re-tracking a new part. Not sure I can cut and paste a slower one. One question I do have, and it's the hardest for me to get right is the bass. Part of me thinks it's a touch too quiet. Any takers?

    Acoustic Song, Final Mix?

Bruiser, Thanks man. That is exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for, and why I put stuff up here. When you're doing a mix, your focus changes all the time, and sometimes things just float by un-noticed. There's a lot of good ears around these parts. I'll check into the things you...

    Acoustic Song, Final Mix?

After a long break, we're back at it and taking a fresh look at five songs for a new EP. We're trying to prepare some final mixes. Would love feedback on this first one. I posted this awhile back, but I made some changes. Is it ready for print? Beards 2012_02_16.mp3 - File Shared from Box...

    Acoustic singer/songwriter.

I've been struggling with the whole issue of creative control with a gal I'm recording. All you can do is state your case, and in the end, it's his music. He gets the final say. Kinda frustrating but that's the way it is. If you ask me, the vocals are pretty good as is. Post up the new...

First song in 11 months, thank goodness!

Just to be clear. I love the trem guitar. I think it sounds great. I was only saying that here and there, listening in headphones, it sort of smacks you in the ear. It's just a fine tuning issue, not a big one. Still love the song

Love this! At times it had a Sergeant Pepper's flavor to it. The second version is much better than the first BTW. I think you nailed it.

First song in 11 months, thank goodness!

I like the nice relaxed feel of the whole song. Makes me want to head down to somewhere warm and watch the ocean as I sip on an adult beverage. Thanks for sharing. The only nit I have about the mix is the strummed electric with tremolo in the left channel is a bit loud in places. Maybe some...

    Acoustic singer/songwriter.

Listened to all three, and I love the sound. I think on longshot the mando could come up just a tad. Also could come up on the first section of hotelroom. As it is now, my ear is straining to hear it, or even tell what instrument it is. It adds some cool accents, bring it up just a touch...

Kevin, this was our first try with new mics on acoustic guitar. I normally use SDCs but we decided to try something new on this one. The guitars were recorded with a Josephson C700a (two channel mic) at the 12th fret about a foot and a half away. A Beesneez Arabella about 6 inches to the...

    Experimenting with Mid-side miking ...

Kevin, To get true mid/side picture with the first configuration you listed, you have to duplicate the figure of 8 track (copy and paste to a new track so that you have two identical tracks), pan one hard left, the other hard right, and flip the phase on one of the two. The side with the...

    Experimenting with Mid-side miking ...

Kevin, We use mid side a good bit. It gives a nice full, live sounding guitar. The nature of mid side guitar will always make it lean one way or the other since one side has x+y and the other x-y. You do have to be really careful to get the mid and side mic tracks phase aligned perfectly...
