what's a good quality (and value) soundcard?

First of all, I don't see how me posting an opinion about a product or a company is taken as a personal attack to you or your current setup - I wasn't being sarcastic or nasty - I was sincere when I said I'm glad you aren't having problems with your hardware. Granted, the DMAN is not one of the...

what's a good quality (and value) soundcard?

I'm glad you haven't had any problems with their products, but I had nothing but headaches. Multiple drivers, complete system reinstalls (reformated the drive, reinstalled the OS and started over), different pc's - the DMAN NEVER worked - not once. They're tech support people were USELESS. I...

what's a good quality (and value) soundcard?

yeah, this one keeps popping up...any others? I know some people aren't going to understand my attitude with Midiman products, but I had such a bad experience with the DMAN (search these forums to see what I mean), I doubt that I will ever buy another product of theirs - and if I do, it won't...

what's a good quality (and value) soundcard?

I'm looking for a low- to mid- price sound card to fill in on my pc until I can afford to get something more upscale (like the Tascam controller or the EZBus). Ideally, this card should run in Win98 and WinXP. Something that can work with Cakewalk for now and Sonar in the future...Full-duplex...

    windows xp upgrade

I got it installed to...the DMAN was another story though...so Rob, if I get a newer sound card that is supported in XP, I should be able to run Cakewalk with little problem?

so what DOES work in XP???

actually, raw audio tracks were what I was reffering to. I thought you were saying that the plain audio sounds better in Sonar. I can understand how the effects would be better - and therefore, improve the overall sound...

Aardvark products and the LX6 - opinions?

Has anybody worked with the Aardvark products? Specifically the LX6 looks interesting to me...I'm trying to find something that will work in Win98 for now...and possibly XP later...

so what DOES work in XP???

Thanks, I appreciate the honesty. I will look into the 2496. I'm surprised that Sonar vs. PA9 is that dramatic of a difference in sound quality. Using the same hardware, I figured they'd be close. What's the general impression of the Aardvark products, specifically the LX6? Thanks.

so what DOES work in XP???

Middleman - You're right. Home recording has always been an expensive proposition. I guess I just didn't expect to be shelling out extra $ following the purchase of a new pc. Maybe it's best for me to partition my drive and use 98 for the time being - at least it will hold me over while I...

so what DOES work in XP???

Yeah, the AWE card wasn't great, but it did the trick for the time being. I checked Cakewalk's page and there's no updates or patches or anything for XP. You're right - Pro Audio came before XP, and maybe it isn't possible for Cakewalk to offer a patch to let it run on XP...but I doubt it...

so what DOES work in XP???

Before I start this post, I want to apologize in advance. I don't usually like to bitch and moan, but today I am totally frustrated. Up until about 6 months ago, I was using an old pc with Windows 98 and Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 to record music. I had a DMAN 2044 interface and a SoundBlaster AWE...

    mixing in cakewalk - w/o a mouse

Yes! That's exactly the sort of thing that I am looking for - does this work with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9? Do you know of any other interfaces on the market like this? what about the Contour Shuttle Pro? Anyone know if that is compatible with PA9?

Upgraded my machine...will the old stuff work?

no luck MidiMan stopped making drivers for the DMAN at Win 98. So there's no chance that it will work?

    mixing in cakewalk - w/o a mouse

Anyone know of any inexpensive interfaces out there for mixing on a pc without a mouse? I know about the larger ones that have recording capabilities of their own, but right now I am just looking for a controller. any ideas?

I got that wrong - it's Cakwalk Pro Audio 9.

what exactly is wrong with using Pro Audio 9 in XP? What does it (or doesn't it) do?

Upgraded my machine...will the old stuff work?

I just got a 1.8 GHz Pentium 4 Dell to replace my old slapped together 180 Mhz Pentium machine. It came preloaded with Windows XP Home edition. I've got Cakewalk Pro Audio (7, I believe). I also have a Midiman DMAN 2044 card (which never quite worked right in the old machine). So my first...

    Mackie Mixer on Ebay...strange...

I did make the mistake of assuming that this was a VLZ Pro - that was my doing. But the text that I posted is copied and pasted right from the auction. You're right, Joe, if it works, I suppose none of this matters. I will test it this weekend when I see my father in law and hopefully all...
