Something you might not know about condenser microphone capsules

I "might" have a fix for that..... Fleece cloth sewn into a can shape cover and pulled down over the grille head. Would last for years. Will have to investigate how well it resists humidity though.

    Question for the professionals

What's with the excess reverb? Well, the recording was done almost 6 years ago and I was experimenting with my then new recording software which really impressed me to no end at the time. At the time I thought it sounded alright. As aforementioned, what I hear, whether it's me or anything else...

    Question for the professionals

Thanks fellas. When I stick my fingers in my ears when I sing, I perceive that I don't sound at all like I do when I don't. This is, of course, due to the fact that I am still hearing a combination of sound-waves and the vibration of my own voice via bone conduction. When my fingers are in my...

    Question for the professionals

For decades, I've shied away from recording of any kind because I never liked the sound of my own voice. (I don't like having my photo taken either - I look fatter than I am) One day, in the recent past, I thought to search the net to find out if there was any info on why I sounded different. To...

Something you might not know about condenser microphone capsules

Honestly, I thought the XLR connector at the base of the mic was the most important part of the microphone's sound. Without it, it don't make a sound. I could be wrong. My mileage may vary and I could run out of gas.

    un-orthodox use of mics?

To be perfectly honest with you, I don't think it's strange to use two condenser mics on vocals. Actually, I've sampled a dynamic and condenser combo on both vocals and instruments. I've found that I could take advantage of one mic grabbing the treble frequency while the other caught the bass...

Mic Vs. Mic Comparison - MXL 990/MXL v63M

please refer to my response to moresound. Also, the shockmount is very useful in that it helps reduce unwanted transient mechanical noise such as walking around, bumps and such. You might be happier with the V67G. For future reference: For an instrument mic, consider the MXL 603, for a tube...

Mic Vs. Mic Comparison - MXL 990/MXL v63M

I have the 990/991 pack he mentions and my thoughts are that they sound alright for the price. But, the V67 seems to have a positive following. Ronan made vid on microphones and offered up his thoughts on the V67. Buying your first microphone - Buying a your first micrphone for a home...

Best Studio Mic for Children (unskilled)

Thanks for the explanation link. I've noticed this phenomenon of my guitar sounding louder when I stand close to a bare wall or door. My guess had been that because the sound is being reflected off the wall and towards me and my bad ears. I can barely hear an acoustic guitar anymore. Anyway, I...
