BUILDING A NEW DAW: What to buy and better yet, what questions to ask?

Hey that'd be cool to see :D. I do consider myself a carpenter for having been in construction for ten years, but you should see some of the stuff I have hacked together. It's not always pretty :) (but it usually weighs a ton cause I build everything with at least 2x4's :D)... Like the good...

BUILDING A NEW DAW: What to buy and better yet, what questions to ask?

Wow long post(s) :D. I am going to skip answering each individual question, cause I don't have time to make a long post this morning. Some people here pointed me in the right direction as far as reading material, (toms hardware guide), and this is what I came up with; mobo, the most...

What computer recording software do you guys use?

n-track, because it is fairly loaded and damn cheap. My only contention is it's not great for MIDI. I also have cubase SX, but I am happy enough with n-track, that I don't even use it. Oh yes, and free lifetime upgrades with n. ;) .

Buzzing sound goes away with a good hard Smack!!!

I'm running my J-station into my Behringer amp via the AUX ins, and now lately there has been some buzzing coming out of the amp itself :D. OK possibly I am a complete moron for having done this, but it seemed like a lot better idea than running straight into the input. The amp is a GX112, w/...

    N-track and a synth keyboard

If that music creator thing is part of cakewalk, I know lots of people around here use it to great success with their MIDI. I for one am not one of those :(. My personal suggestion at this point is to try the search function to find a little more info on what you are looking for.

    N-track and a synth keyboard

Um yeah, n-track kinda hates MIDI BTW...it crashes quite a bit with it. Of course Flavio is constantly improving the program, but for now the MIDI portion is kinda hurtin.

    N-track and a synth keyboard

Same deal here, cept cheaper I think. These cables have two ends (obviously :D) each end having an in and an out. Another supplier is found here.

    N-track and a synth keyboard

I don't use a synth so I don't know about that part. But for a MIDI cable you are probably going to need one of these http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F007%5F006%5F003%5F000&product%5Fid=970%2D1256 The round end is for your synth, the square end...

    clued out

Yea, I hear ya totally. I find programming the sounds on my drum machine to be by far the easiest as well as fun (drumming with my fingers, ya know?), but the sounds are just not cutting it. I've been looking at pcdrummer for quite some time now, as it is a self contained drumming program...

ahh crap, that was kinda my sneaking suspicion about the sb16 :(. I'll keep this in mind for later, thanks anyways.

sounds like you have rectal problems... but just to make this informative, most likely wiring/shielding problems :).

And the only noticable difference is that when I open the drum editor, all the parts of the drum are moved around. So when I take my little drumstick Icon and begin placing beats manually in the kickdrum row, it sounds exactly the same. I thought it might have been the drummap I loaded so I...

Ok here goes again. I don't have soundfonts (I'm pretty damn sure of this I went looking around and stuff), and from what I see it is gonna cost money (which I dont have). its a soundblaster16 Maybe Im wrong ? :D ... I may have made a little bit more headway in that to use drum sounds only I...

    Mixing Clinic Reviewer Guidelines

hmm I may have giantsized a few expletives since i have hung around this BBS (not neccesarily this forum), I'll be nice now :). Constructive criticizm is great I think. I am new to the recording end of things so my opinion as far as technical things are concerned isn't really valid :)...

Anyone have the DRUMKIT FROM HELL?

oops had to type this twice... Well the reason I have a wack of cd's made from downloaded mp3's is twofold. One, I didn't feel like forking out more dough to replace all the tapes I had already bought (actually it was more of a case of not having the dough as opposed to forking it out). And...

The best producer? George Martin Or Bob Rock?

I'm not gonna comment on the above cause I am not knowledged enough (except to say that I don't imagine Bob Rock to be really special) :D. Ronnie Dio over John Lennon any day... In the vein of metal, or more extreme death metal, I always looked forward to hearing stuff coming out of...

Anyone have the DRUMKIT FROM HELL?

I sure woulda hated to buy photosuite because I was doing the right thing in not filesharing and then realize it is an absolute waste of money ;)... So I got a rip of it, and realized it was a fucking joke, and I would have wasted hundreds of dollars on it at the time, thus provoking me to...
