Does ANYBODY know where to find Type 2 cassettes in Australia? Nowhere in my entire state has them. I drove around for many hours searching.
None online that I can see, and none of eBay.
Thanks for the digging up of the manual guys. I actually have the original manual right here.
Are those tapes still fairly common? How much do they tend to cost?
Those plug packs can be killer for noise. How long does the battery last? It might be wise to pick up a second battery. Most laptops *should* last a few hours off one charge.
So when you're recording you can pull out the cord then if you need to mix fiddle for any length of time you can just...
Hey guys,
I'm now the proud owner of a Yamaha MTX4 4 Track Cassette Recorder, and hand me down from a cousin who moved away.
Now I'm pretty damned familiar with most aspects of PC based recording but have never used a 4 track before. I think it would be good experience to play around with it...
You don't need a DI box between your mixer and your computer. How you are doing it is fine.
When people mean breakout box they mean a different soundcard that has a breakout box (a breakout box just has all the inputs/outputs on a seperate box that you can place away from your computer for easy...
So much misinformation.
The only way to damage your monitor is to run it at a refresh rate (V or H) that it doesn't support. Now all modern monitors (as in the last 10 years or so) won't let you select a refresh rate out of it's range, so you're safe.
Running a different res won't damage a...
SCORE!
Nah thanks I remember reading about that a long time ago but it wasn't really pertinent at the time.
I understand that 24bit tends to give more headroom, but I am currently limited to 16. Is this a terrible thing?
Hey,
I use a dinky little mixer as pre-amp basically. I plug my mic/source into the mixer and then run the -10 outs into my line in.
Now I try to keep my signals around 0 on my mixer (maximum +5, then clip) in order to stop clipping/distortion. I assume this is the right thing to do.
However...
I think it's a little rude to limit a drummers sonic variety by telling them not to use the hi-hats as accent cymbals. I think most would be a little bit put off if you said that.
The beauty of recording is that it is as much art as it is science.
Sure theres a few handy conventions to follow when you're starting out like having a 57 micing amps but when you get your grounding remember that it's all about the sound you achieve.
You can record it using whatever you want...
That will work but is a poor way of doing it.
Guitar Rig can be used as a VST effect. Your tracking software should definitely be able to utilise VST effects/instruments.
Try recording a track of you playing guitar straight into the soundcard (or via a mixer whatever) then choosing an effect...
But do you need to record all those things at once? The only real difference between different soundcards in this realm is the number of simultaneous channels it can record. You can mix n number of tracks on your pc if you lay them track by track.
M4U is a playlist type. It doesn't contain any audio data at all, it's simply a list of songs to play and where they are located on your computer.
M4A is a type of audio compression (invented?) used by Apple. It does contain audio data, so songs can be M4A files.
Hey,
I have my electric guitar running into the line in on my mixer (acting as a preamp) (Yamaha MG10/2) then out of my rec.outs into my PC.
Now I am using an amp simulator on my pc to get some effects going.
My problem is however that to get a hot enough signal I have to turn the gain on the...
Soundblaster Live, not Audigy. The live is a modest card (doesn't claim to do 24/96) but works extremely well for someone wanting a 2in 2out solution.
The hacked drivers have their own DSP and routing so you can basically do whatever you want to the signal.
I don't see anything wrong with the soundblaster in it's current utilisation. It works extremely well for my purposes.
What would be your alternate suggestion?
How much would a small multicore cost? I've seen larger ones go for fairly cheap on eBay.
