Can you suggest me a new guitar in the $500 price range

I think you can figure it out. Go to a local guitar store, and play the nicest, most expensive guitars they have. Play way out of your price range. Play PRSs, Gibsons, MIA Fenders, etc. Play them back to back with $99 el cheapos. You should feel the difference in quality, and hear the...

PRS Guitars... Can someone explain differences?

That makes more sense. Sorry about misquoting you.

    DMB transitions

One more thing about segues.. Something I have never heard DMB do, which was/is quite common for the Grateful Dead, Phish, and Widespread panic, is to play a second song (and 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc.) in the middle of the first song. There is another band called Disco Biscuits that does all sorts...

    DMB transitions

Phish was one of the biggest jambands of the 90s. Their fans noticed that their jams fell into two categories: Lots of bands do the type 1 jamming - the basic chord progression stays the same while various instruments trade solos over it. This drags on for a while and then they play a...

PRS Guitars... Can someone explain differences?

In addition to what H2H said, "Artist Package" means gold hardware, inlays, and (I think) 10 top. Also, modern PRSs have 2 options for the bridge: tremelo and hardtail. The Custom 24s usually have the tremelo, while the Custom 22s and McCartys usually have the hardtail. (But you can find...

    Guitar shops in Austin, TX

I bought a PRS from Guitar Resurrection last time I was in Austin.. Great guys, and a LOT of nice guitars, including Alembic, G&L, PRS, etc. They have more "in the back" that aren't on display. They have a lot of botique amps, too. Dr. Z, Bogner, Bad Cat, THD, 65, etc. I didn't get to play...

    New tubes mean fresh scents...

The first tube amp I got, back in college, had little plastic jackets on the tubes to protect them in shipping. Not knowing any better, I turned it on and started jamming. Mom was like, "Is that thing burning?"

    Micing acoustic guitar!!!

I would try the MXL 990, 1-2 feet in front of the guitar, lined up with the 12th fret. Start by angling it toward the soundhole. If it's too boomy, angle it back towards the headstock. Play with all positions in between to find the best sound for your guitar. Also play with moving the mic...

    Which electric guitar??

You might also try a strat with a bridge humbucker.

    Recording Overdriven Guitar

You're probably hearing a lot of room sound in your ears, but the mic isn't picking it up. Try moving the mic 6" away from the grill, try it 1' from the grill, try it off center, try it pointed at the edge of the cone, try it on the edge of the cone, pointed at the center of the speaker, and...

    DI or Mixer or Confused?

Acoustic guitar is one of the hardest instruments to record well. It takes a lot of time and practice, and good mics. What microphones are you using? How are you positioning them?

    DI or Mixer or Confused?

Microphones. Guitars recorded direct like that will sound awful. If you must go direct, get a POD, SansAmp, or the like.

Countryman vs. Sans Amp Bass DI

I think the issue is that the term "modelling" these days means digital amp modelling - microcontrollers running software algorithms to "model" the characteristics of classic amps. Technically, a SansAmp is still a "modelling" device - it models the characteristics of tubes with transformers...

    Tube Amp Pop and Squeal

I fixed it. The 2nd tube from the input was bad. The amp is about 6 years old. I went ahead and replaced all the preamp tubes, because I figure that if one failed the others are close. However, I saved the good ones in case I need them later.

    interesting discovery

I heard that whenever Rickenbacker got a custom order for a Jet-Glo guitar they would just pull a Fire-Glo off the rack and paint it black. Probably the same thing - for some screwed up capitalistic reason, it's cheaper for them to make a boat load of collegiate guitars and then paint them...

    .mp3 to .MOD

Just convert the MP3 to WAV format, strip the header, and create a MOD with a single event that triggers the playback of the song. :D Seriously, I don't think you can do it. How are you going to separate the instruments from an MP3?

    Tube Amp Pop and Squeal

Further info: it squeals with no inputs, both preamp channels set at 0, and master vol at 0. Probably power tubes then?

    Tube Amp Pop and Squeal

Last night my Boogie started popping randomly, really loudly. I quit using it, thinking I would try and diagnose the problem today. Today I turned it on, and as soon as I took it off standby, it squealed really loudly. It's not guitar feedback, it was coming from the amp. I was looking at the...

    software amp modellers vs hardware

POD and V-Amp are also "software" - they just run on different (dedicated) hardware. I would not be surprised to see Line6 either port their algorithms to x86, and/or put their chip on a PCI board and write a VST/DX plugin for them. That's just technical details, though. So far, I have been...
