Acoustic guitar is one of the hardest instruments to record well. It takes a lot of time and practice, and good mics. What microphones are you using? How are you positioning them?

Microphones. Guitars recorded direct like that will sound awful. If you must go direct, get a POD, SansAmp, or the like.

I think the issue is that the term "modelling" these days means digital amp modelling - microcontrollers running software algorithms to "model" the characteristics of classic amps. Technically, a SansAmp is still a "modelling" device - it models the characteristics of tubes with transformers...

I fixed it. The 2nd tube from the input was bad. The amp is about 6 years old. I went ahead and replaced all the preamp tubes, because I figure that if one failed the others are close. However, I saved the good ones in case I need them later.
