    Halogen Lighting?

I don't have any problem with the halogen track lights in my studio... BUT, do not put a dimmer in the circuit with your recording gear. It will be a source of noise and hum. Oh, and like SonicClang said, you won't have to heat that room in the winter.

    Who really makes which guitars??

I've never heard of Lyon, but Oscar Schmidt is an economy line from Washburn.

what's best PRS lookalike for a lefty gutiarist

Then why didn't you just say that at the beginning instead of all that crap about the piano? BTW, they started making lefties in 99, and yes they are discontinuing them in all but their private stock. There's still six years worth of guitars out there. You can probably pick up a used one for...

what's best PRS lookalike for a lefty gutiarist

I think you are mistaken about lefty PRS guitars.

Difference 25.5 vs 24.75 Scale Length

Some modern guitar makers, notably PRS, make guitars with a 25" scale length. I think it's a nice compromise.

    Giving Lessons To Beginner

Yeah, I would start him with open chords. Teach him the Nirvana song "About a Girl" which is mostly just em and G. Once he is good at that simple change, you can get him to use that song to work on timing and rhythm. Also, instead of scales, teach him cool riffs that will build his finger...

Bass Guitar for the non-Bass Player

I bought a USA Custom Shop Washburn XB900 P/J bass on eBay for $229, for exactly the same purpose. It's been a great player. The only two I see on eBay right now are in the $400-500 range, though.

using EFFECTS in a recording studio----

What they are asking is if you want to apply the reverb and chorus to your guitar sound after you record it, or while you are recording it. It's an important question because the effects processors are geared for different uses. If you're going to add the effects to recorded tracks during the...

How much would you pay for a pick?

$20? That's cheap. You could get five of those for the price of one meteorite guitar pick.

    Humidity (IMPORTANT; MUST READ)

Is there anything to watch out for with sponges? Do the anti-bacterial or anti-odor sponges have any chemicals in them that shouldn't be around guitars?

what do you guys think of the Martin backpacker guitar?

As soon as you get it, switch to Silk'n'Steel ultralights. That will help a lot with the intonation. It doesn't sound great, but it's convenient for travelling. I had mine in the case one time when I went to pick up my wife for a trip. She was working in a skyscraper downtown, and I was...

    Stage fright??????????

I hear that if you use a Carvin guitar you make fewer mistakes. ;) Most of the time, the audience won't even notice if you make a slight mistake. They will think it's part of the song. In highschool, I was acting in a play. One actress was out smoking and missed her cue to come out on stage...

Article: Head To Head Modeler Shoot Out (FYI)

Great article, KP. I like the fact that you talk about what's bad with each unit, and it's not all "RahRahRah!" like most "reviews" these days.

    modes are confusing me

You can't just pick a mode, play a solo, and expect it to change the mood of the piece. If the underlying chord progression of the song is C-C-F-G, and you're playing notes from the C scale, then the whole thing is going to sound happy. It doesn't matter which pattern you use or where you...

    Tube Lacquer

Spread some of this magical lacquer on your transistors and make 'em sound just like tubes. Who comes up with this crap? And who buys it? More great stuff here, like these $30,750 speaker cables.

    V-AMP Pro S/PDIF > M-Audio Delta

And if you ever boot up your computer, and your sound is all messed up, make sure the V-AMP Pro is on, or set your delta clock back to "internal." Took me a while to figure that out. ;)

Can you suggest me a new guitar in the $500 price range

Go to the store, and grab a strat and a les paul. Pick any tube amp in the store, and play them both through that amp, with the same amp settings. You will hear a difference.
