If you needed to be compatible with other studios that were running pro tools, then it might make sense to switch. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. All the major applications do things a little differently, but they all have the same features.

You need to lower your latency. Have you played with the "Buffer Size" slider in "Audio" under the "Options" menu? You want to set this as low as your computer can go (without dropouts) when tracking with softsynths. Mine is at 5.8ms.

Sonar is not using windows to play the sounds... it is playing directly through the hardware. I don't think it's going to work with remote desktop.
