    Thinking of pulling the trigger...

Hey Cory, what's even worse is that there was a posting for a free 388. The description was something along the lines of the guy didn't need/want the money and just wanted to get it out of storage, that he only used it once after he bought it used. I knew it was too good to be true, but I...

    Thinking of pulling the trigger...

I love my 2516. The only thing that bugged me about it was the preamp couldn't support my SM7b with an external preamp. Other than that, a great board. FYI guys, I didn't get the 3700 board. I never heard back from the seller and the posting has been deleted.

    General Portastudio question

Now that I think about it, don't get the make-up pads, but make-up remover pads. Doh! The former would be a mess! Sorry about the confusion.

    General Portastudio question

My guess is probably dirty heads. Usually if a head is wearing out, you start noticing the highs in your music dropping off. Go get some make-up pads, Q-tips, and some 90% (or higher %) alcohol and give the heads and capstan a good cleaning. Use a mild dilution of dish soap and water on the...

    Thinking of pulling the trigger...

Briank, your ad has expired. I've seen the plagiarism happen a few times (reading about it on this site), on ebay, especially copied photos. This should be interesting now... Also, I haven't heard anything back from the seller yet either, so this could all be for nothing.

    Thinking of pulling the trigger...

Thanks guys. Hey Cory, I think that was the thread I was reading at some point this morning. LOL I'll be getting rid of the M2516 (as much as I hate to) and the Soundmaster is going to be put aside for a friend when she is ready for it. This is all, of course, provided I do end up with the...

    Thinking of pulling the trigger...

I've been mulling over the idea of getting a bigger mixer to handle the various equipment that I have, other than the reel decks and usual microphones. I stumbled upon this: Tascam M3700 32 channel (mixer) mixing console I'm just waiting on more info from the seller. I have tried to find as...

    What a conundrum

I wonder what it would take to buy the "old" equipment and set up a station. I've heard that some of the components have been modified for the digital transmissions, but I would imagine that there are still a good number of untainted pieces out there to work with. I know it's highly...

    What a conundrum

I had a rental car that had XM radio in it. I found one or two stations that had an awesome library, but the sound was like 64kbps mp3s or something. Horrible. I've noticed that the regular FM radio is sounding the same way since most of them have gone to "HD" radio. What a load of crap.

    pioneer rt-909 function? recording issue?

I've got 3 of them. The 909 is a 4 track / 2 channel consumer deck. One of the neat things about this deck is that you can record on track at a time (if you decide to layer two tracks, or just to have two separate mono tracks of a program of sorts). The odd thing about this model (why...

8 Ch. RCA Snakes? What Brand?

Good point Briank. I've never dissected a Hosa cable before. Then again, I'm using them for home use, nothing in a professional setting. I guess my cables are never stressed so I've never experienced a failure. Interesting to know how they really are on the inside. For what I am doing, I...

8 Ch. RCA Snakes? What Brand?

My Hosa snakes and cables have held up very well. Should I decide to get more snakes, I'll go back for more Hosa ones. If you want some of the best, Mogami is probably going to be it, but you'll definitely pay for it.

    Tascam 38 decision time...

It's kind of hard to say what's best for you. Only you can answer that question. Do you need 8 tracks? If so, it's a toss up on whether or not to fix the 38 or find another 38, or even a TSR-8. I would think that 8 tracks for drums would be a bit more flexible, in the fact that you could use...

    My $10 Tascam score.

There's a 122 and a 122b. The "b" is simply balanced outputs added to the deck, almost a mkII, of sorts. I've got a box of N.O.S. parts for the 1st gen 122 decks. I'm not sure if I have any belts for it though. I love my 122b. Needs a little work though.

    Tascam 38 help

The VERY first thing to do is get some 90% (or higher) rubbing alcohol, cotton make up pads, and Q-tips, then give those heads a good cleaning. Clean the entire tape transport path while you are at it. DO NOT use the alcohol on the rubber pinch roller though. You would be amazed at what a...
