We Will Rock You - Queen vs Songsmith - YouTube
Anyone up for some Queen a la songsmith?
By the way, nice rendition of Ace of Spades Greg... very tight!
I think what Greg said about it being a matter of circumstance is basically it.
I see songwriting as being like any other skilled trade; once you learn how to do it properly, you're no better or worse then the "pros" regardless of your fame.
That said, as for my own songwriting, sure i think...
Haha. Well my interest in sound physics doesn't only stop at the metric level! Whether it be metric or psychometric, I'm just trying to absorb all that there is to know! :thumbs up:
As for why I'm curious about all this... besides the fact that it is helpfull in acoustics/engineering I just...
Ok; the amount of displacement by the air particles from compression and rarefaction is the amplitude correct? With that said, amplitude by itself is not necessarily measured in dB right? When someone is talking about how a jet engine is around 160 dB or whatever is the "160 dB" are they...
I haven't read through this thread thoroughly, but has anyone actually defined what "serious money" is?
And to clarify... I should've said the internet has the potential to reach millions of people. You just have to know how tu use it!
I think Greg certainly has a point; it's a great time to be an independent musician. You have the potential to reach millions of fans thanks to the internet, recording and production gear is comparatively dirt cheap to what it was in the "good ol' days".
Now when I say that it's a great time...
I have a few questions; it's at the point where I am not even sure what to ask, but here goes:
There are several kinds of amplitude, like peak, peak to peak, and RMS... But are any of these amplitudes equivalent to sound pressure level? If so, how are amplitude, SPL, and subjective loudness...
Definitely change to kick to a more aggressive tone.
Alternatively, you can try EQing the kick by cutting around 250-600 Hz to get rid of that boxy sound; I think that would be more of the kick sound you're aiming for. You can also try boosting around 2-5 kHz to increase the click of the beater.
From what I've read 16 bit resolution has a dynamic range of 96... 24 bit has 144 dB.
But in what real world situation would you be able to take full advantage of 144 dB of dynamic range anyway? Ambient room/whatever noise can be anywhere from 30-45 dB anyway, which takes away from the 144 dB...
I'm assuming you are referring to my mix;
Either way, making people feel like crap helps no one.
Perhaps you have some constructive criticism to offer?
It does sound like a good spaghetti western tune... I can't unsee the images that Greg put in my head!
I like your vibrato- fast, but not too wide.
What kind of guitar is it?
Nice tune! It'll sound great once it's fleshed out a bit
I think the general idea is that you "EQ" the room with proper treatment as best you can and only EQ your monitors as a last resort if said acoustic treatment isn't good enough.
I think the drums lack some presence... they can come up somewhat.
The rhythm can be tighter in a few spots as well.
Also I'm pretty sure that the melodic thing in the intro is played by the bass, not the guitar, on the original recording.
You have a nice guitar tone though!
Nicely done...
I second on reading the sticky on recording acoustic guitar... very good read.
I'm not familiar with the mixer, but if it has a Hi-Z input than plugging the guitar in direct should be no problem.
I just googled unintelligible just to double check...
They seem to be synonymous to me??? But yes, indistinguishable would be a perfectly adequate alternate word.
Anyway, as long as we understand each other it doesn't matter :)
