u could stick a limiter on it and that will bring the volume up a bit .... just use any limiter plugin and drag down the threshold ...but be careful ...if u try to make it too loud it will start to sound crappy!

what i do is set all the individual track volume levels so that the transients go to about -12 db .... then anything that needs to be made a little bit louder i will compress.... i usually compress the kick, and snare add a noise gate and stick a parametric EQ on them ....my drum overheads...

I'm still learning how to get the best sound from my limited equipment at the minute too.. Last night i recorded a drummer with 3 mics ...1 condenser above the drummers head pointing down at his right knee, a shure sm 57 on the snare and another condendenser in a make shift cage beside the kick...

Ok lets consider this example... a song consists of drums, bass, acoustic guitar and vocals.... would i be right in saying that the kick drum and bass occupy the same frequency range ...so boosts and cuts are applied in certain areas to make them gel together...? the bass can be rolled off on...

When would be the best time to apply this EQ though ....would it be better to apply it on the mixer during tracking....or to record with all the EQ pots set to unity gain .... then apply an EQ plug in on my computer during mixing ....???

Its the Roland Vs880 - i get a really clean sound by just plugging dynamic mics into the roland rather than going through the mixer ...so i am guessing i must have the gain turned up too high on the mixer or somethin ...i'll experiment with this for a while and hopefully will find out what i am...

What i would love is a thread that has all the best website pages about recording , eq, reverb, compressors, limiters, and panning ... basically a step by step guiide to mixing .... that would be really cool :D
