    That rubber-band bass

Talc! I owned one of those for a couple of years. I recall that I used talc on my hands and on the strings to get around the stickiness problem. At one point I used surgical tubing for strings but the original strings sounded and felt better. It is really important to keep your nails trimmed...

anyone had experience with Marshall mic's

V67 Angles I can get a variety of good vocal sounds out of the V67 by tilting the top the mic either toward or away from my face. Certain angles will definately tighten things up if you are getting a bit too warm and/or loose of a sound. Add the changes that you can get by going off axis side...

rolling off everything below X Hz

corner frequency VS rolloff rate "which would mean that 80hz will be down 10db," This is not the way we spec filters in the electronics world. The frequency stated is always the -3db point regardless of the slope or rolloff rate. This means that in the example stated 80Hz would be 3db down...

help recording spoken word, a capella, jazz scat

thanks Thanks Innovations, I was considering the bathroom partially because it is the most acoustically isolated room in the house - best insulation and the newest and smallest window. It also has a new floor that does not creak. I will try both rooms and probably try loading the bathroom...

Live sound - dealing with criticsm

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Everyone - For reminding me that I was right to turn down a last minute outdoor gig that would have been done mostly with rented gear and performers I don't know. I know there was a reason I had that funny feeling in my tummy when I thought about doing that one -...

    Rs 33-3032 & Eq?

low eq As I understand it, one problem with using eq to boost a particular frequency band is that you will also amplify any noise in that band. In the case of boosting low frequencies this could mean problems with 60 cycle hum. Moderate amounts of boost are probably OK.

    mxl 990 vs. mxl v67

I decided Thanks for the info middleman and everyone else too. I decided to try the V67 because I am 99+% sure that it is the better fit for my studio application. I figured I should not compromise or I will end up with a mic that doesn't fill either of my needs. I guess that I will just have...

    mxl 990 vs. mxl v67

MXL 990 Live? Just wondering if the 990 had a tight enough pattern to be of any use live in situations with medium to high SPLs or is its usefulness strictly limited to the studio and soft acoustic gigs? This would be a reason for me to pick the 990 right now becuase I don't have enough live...
