What I've been up to lately... (Metal)

As a veteran of the fake midi guitar sound produced by progams like guitar pro, I feel like I can judge this objectively. So far I'm really like burnt offerings. Has a nice groovey Pantera, 5FDP, Metallica verse riff. I really like how this incorporates the chugging of metalcore-esque riffs...

Metal song, needs some mixing advice!

Thanks for listening, I'm glad you enjoyed it! You know, it's funny that you mention Avenged Sevenfold. Our other guitarist hates practically every other vocal take that I do because he thinks I sound too much like M. Shadows haha.

So I done a free recording......

I agree. the electric guitar in the intro sounds like ass. Some reverb would help, but I don't think that can fix the overall suckiness of the part itself. The drums definitely have a 70's vibe. Maybe the snare could use some more crack? The kick sounds good.

    hard rock tune >> "Thief"

My only complaint is the rhythm guitar tone, and the kick. The rhythm guitar definitely screams amp-sim to me. This kind of song definitely needs the warm growl of a mic'ed tube amp. The kick drum also sounds a little clicky to me, and doesn't seem to have much actual boom. Other than that...

    my very amateur first attempt

I'm listening to Lotto. This has potential, but it could definitely benefit from some production. The guitar sounds a little out of tune, but the vocals sound good. Keep at it, there really isn't too much I can say since this is just vocals over guitar.

    Come By The Hills

The flute sounds very nice and warm. I think the vocals could use just a touch of compression to even them out. This isn't a loud pounding rock song so it doesn't need a huge amount of compression. Just enough to even out the volume. Otherwise, good job. The mix has plenty of room to...

Metal song, needs some mixing advice!

Hey guys, this is an unfinished track from my band's upcoming album. Now, it's a long way from being done, but it's called "To the One Who Holds the Key" and it's basically a giant metaphor for being an unsigned band and trying to gain recognition. On this particular recording, I handled all...

    Lead guitar tone

The rhythm tone sounds sweet man, great job! Definitely has a laid back feel good for the blues/acdc type stuff. Good job on the lead tone, it's warm and clear. Not saying this is your issue, but generally when people have trouble capturing a rich lead tone it's the micing. People think of...

    new METAL song opinions...

I dug the rhtyhmic nature of the riffs, very cool stuff there. As far as the mix goes, I don't want to comment too much, I'm listening on laptop speakers. It seemed like everything was clearly audible. Can't wait to hear it with vocals. Hopefully they aren't all stereotypical cookie-monster vox!

New song, I welcome all feedback!!!

Wow, this is awesome. The clean guitar tone is amazing, and the vocals are deep and soulful. I don't really have any mixing feedback since I'm listening on laptop speakers, but it sounds really well-produced from what I hear. I think I may be hearing too much reverb on the hi-hat. That, or...

Thrash metal band demo - give it a chance?

So I know this board is a home to people from all genres and demographics. It'd be awesome if you could just give this a second and check it out, even if you aren't a metal fan. This is my band, "Hell I Feel," and this is our 3 track demo (99% done...) we are going to submit to nuclear blast...

    Weak voice

You are right. You do not have a strong voice. But you can change that. What you do have is character, and you are in tune for the most part. That you can't change. Just keep at it. You are not a bad singer by any means. You just suffer from two very key things that most inexperienced...

New hard rock mix, looking for feedback!

Gearbox is line6's amp modeling software that comes with the toneport UX2. There's actually much better software out there (Revalver, guitar Rig) but the experience I have with gearbox, combined with it's simplicity got me something of a pretty decent rhythm guitar tone. (it also got me the...

    New rock song "Polytheism"

Nice song, I like it. Very interesting atmosphere and mood. I think the vocal performance could use a little more energy, but they definitely work well the way they are, I'm just being picky.

Recording and mixing the vocals (tips)

Just remember, for all the treating of the room, proper mic setup, quality equipment, etc. there is NO substitute for a good performance. In fact, I think the most important part of any quality vocal recording is a strong performance. A strong performance that isn't captured as well as it...

Brand New Emotion - feedback please

The production is pretty good, in the sense that I can hear every instrument. But the playing could be a LOT better. This style of music thrives on everything being in that rhythmic "pocket". The guitars are all over the place, and the whole song lacks any sense of building or releasing...

New hard rock mix, looking for feedback!

There's no real amps anywhere in this recording, although that's not generally my style. I've played around with gearbox enough to figure out some pre-sets and rhythm guitar combos that sound 80 - 90% of the real thing. The only interface I used here was my Line 6 tonepurt UX2. No additional...

New hard rock mix, looking for feedback!

Thanks for the feedback guys. The drums are programmed, and then exported down to each individual track (snare, bass, tom1, tom2, tom3, OH, plus some room samples). There should be some velocity variation in there, but after listening to them again, they definitely sound pretty plastic. Yeah...
