Anyone Here Not Using 'Proper' Monitors?

But those "nice" stereo speakers were manufactured with coloration in mind. The designers didn't want them to sound "true" or "flat". They wanted everything to sound GOOD. At least most monitor manufacturers attempt to build a speaker with a flat response, no?

    samples for music production ?

Just my 2 cents, but based on the keyboards you have and the soft synths that you have, you should have plenty of quality sounds. If you're looking for unique sounds, maybe you should get a vintage analog synth that will allow you to create you own sounds?

    Amp for NS10s

Not to start an NS-10 debate but I do agree NS-10 are supposed to sound like ass and, yes, good mixes do sound good on NS-10s. If you can make it sound good on an NS-10...blah blah blah..... Get a decent amp. Decent amps can sound as good as great amps but bad amps can't sound like decent amps...

    Am I really worthless?

It would probably help your flow quite a bit if you would take a few history lessons. Rakim is regarded as one of the best lyricists in rap EVER. Em, Snoop, and Lil' John aren't really rap pioneers. The landscape of hip-hop has certainly changed over the past 20 years or so, but everything you...

    Am I really worthless?

Most of what I was going to contribute has already been said. If music is in your soul then do it for that reason alone. If you're looking to make a career out of it, then you'll need thicker skin. No matter how good or how bad you are, you're going to have some people telling you that you suck...

does anyone have a recording of the 60 hertz hum?

Anybody know how to take the vocals out of a 60hz hum?

    Hi, another question/advice on mixers.

Well, depending upon you budget, if you wanted to go on the cheap, you could get Pro Tools M-Powered and an M-Audio Delta 1010 interface to use with it (roughly $500 total cost). That would give you the ability to record 10 (I think) different channels at once. So you could use 6 for drums, 2...

    Hi, another question/advice on mixers.

If you get the Alesis unit, you won't be able to use it with Pro Tools. You have to use their hardware (or M-Audio hardware if you have PT M-Powered). If you're not married to the idea of using Pro Tools, then the Alesis may be the shot. If you have to use Pro Tools, then you're going to need to...

    Recording an acoustic

One of our artists just purchased a sweet Tachamine acoustic geeeeetar. Usually I mic acoustics (typically a 4050) but when she had this thing plugged into our PA it sounded SWEET! Is there ever a time that the pick-up is going to sound better than micing?

    Digital Drums and Acoustic Cymbals

Why don't you record each of your cymbals and then trigger them as a sample?

    Is this legit?

I have ordered a couple of things from Audiolines. Never had a problem.

    live performance with laptop

Actually I play live in a group where much of the parts are either audio or MIDI from a laptop. I agree about XP and stability and realibility. My interface failed on me last weekend and the show was almost FUBAR. Luckily we got by on CDs for the pre-recorded stuff. As far as the "cheating"...

    recording drums last......

When I'm writing my own stuff I usually start with whatever stupid melody popped into my head. I find I'm more creative that way because I'm not try to make the melody jive with the drums. However for clients, scratch drums first.

    Does Gear Have Soul?

I swear I'd get rid of the analog desk if clients weren't so impressed at all the faders and lights. It's basically used as a gigantic monitor mixer. On another note, because of hip-hop's simplistic nature, a talented performer is critical to a good recording (not that it's not in every other...
