    All-ages shows? (specifically Northern NJ)

In the summer it's all about the backyard parties. Also try actually booking highschools or community centres. They might let you rent the gym or something and then you can charge at the door. Otherwise it's awfully tought to get clubs to book all-ages shows- -- it requires more security...

    Poor Man's Drum Recording

    1. Gating ---- some compressors/limiters come with Gates built in. Essentially, it's a way of isolating a sound. So the sound travels from the mic to the gate, and then you (through the gate) decide at what Db you want the gate to open and allow the signal to travel to the mixer/recording...

    Poor Man's Drum Recording

    1. Triggered drums --- either midi, electronic kits, or triggers on your acoustics --- essentially a way of digitally creating a drum kit, no mics. So when you hit the snare, you're not capturing the actual sound of your snare, but the force with which you hit it, this is then used to...

    Poor Man's Drum Recording

I'd leave the kick dry, but add some compression perhaps gating to fatten it up. Here's a decent resource on drum mic placement http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/ just ignore his recommendations on mics unless you have lots of cash to spend :)

    Poor Man's Drum Recording

What are you recording into? The setup you're using is probably the best you're going to get with the tools you have. The kick and snare problems you are experiencing are most likely due to placement --- the sm57 is decent mic on the snare and shouldn't be coming out muddy. If you have the 57...

Epi Valve Junior/Epi Valve Standard (10' speaker) Loud Enough over Drummer?

If you want a small amp that can battle with a drummer, try the Vox Pathfinder 15. Especially if you use an external cabinet, you'll be fine. Class A tubes can get pretty loud even with low wattage.

    Click sound

Mic placement. Make sure that you've got a mic next to the beater pointing to the place where the beater hits the head. Definitely get more attack that way.

    promotion . . . fu_c_kin wit da haters . . .

I don't think it's slander/libel if it's true. If all you're doing is saying 'Check out this CD, it was banned from _______" then you probably would win a slander/libel case.

How do you ship your products?

For cross border shipping (Canada/US) avoid UPS like the plague. Brokerage fees for the recipient are ridiculous. I've bought a number of things from the US, paid for the shipping, and then upon arrival not only have to pay duty, but also the UPS brokerage fee, which in some cases has been...

    What's your live setup?

DeArmond Starfire - Hendrix Crybaby - Fender PT-100 Tuner - MXR Phase 100 - Proco Rat - Danelectro Cool Cat - Ibanez DE-7 Delay ---> Fender HR Deluxe. Backup guitar - Mex Strat, Rickenbacker 330. Does everything I need it to. I'd really like to upgrade the amp to a Twin or AC30, and a get a...

Need small amp with great tone for recording

Just picked one up a couple of weeks ago. This is a great little amp for recording clean sounds, but not overdriven ones (at least not by itself) --- the overdrive on the amp just isn't there for me.

Production Quality, What's The Big Deal?

As most of the other stuff has been covered I'll respond specifically to this sentence. Becasue your audience wants you to. It sounds stupid, but if you want to get a gig, sell and album, or anything else, and your preferred audience isn't biting becasue of sound production, then either you...

    Another stupid levels question!! Sorry

My comment on compression comes from the homerecorder's perspective. I'd rather have a final product that might not be at commercial volume that has a decent sound, then squash it with a cheap compressor to get it to that volume. Unless you've got some pretty good (and expensive) compressors...

    Another stupid levels question!! Sorry

Depends on what your comparing it to. Most of the volume on commercial CDs is achieved during the Mastering process, not the mixing process. As soon as you start squashing things with compression to bring up the gain, you're going to decrease sound quality. Better to have less volume and...

    A compressor for £800?

I think you'd want to put the compressor after the Pre-amp. The compressor is designed for a line level signal, not for a mic level signal, and for £800 you should be able to get one that won't colour too much (although that far exceeds my budget for compressors so I can't recommend any).
