    Improving Ovation Sound?

Acoustic guitars use a couple of different amplification methods. Generally speaking, most new guitars with an amplification system, incorporate an active (9volt battery) preamp pickup. For example the new ovations use their own OP-30, OP-40 or "optimus". This is the standard type system that...

    Tenacious D acoustic sound

an added note about upgrading your acoustic. It would impress you to hear the difference your guitar produces after you upgrade to bone nuts and saddles. Most guitars (under $500) have plastic nuts and saddles. Bone tends to pick up a far more true vibration. making for a brighter, longer...

    Tenacious D acoustic sound

Installing a decent preamp/blender in most any acoustic is a fairly simple matter. For that matter if you fear the adventure yourself, its not all that expensive to have one installed. I am a mediocre woodworker at best..... and I've installed 5 so far without a hitch.

replace all cables with quality shielded cables. If that fails, grin and bear it... place the unit on a window sill for better reception and enjoy the jam-along feature that others pay extra for.

    My intonation is screwed...HELP!!!

Dude, you chisled out the seat too much. Take it to a tech to get it shimmed right. The string trees dont change a thing. all they do is hold the strings in place so they wont hop out of the nut. but the nut is still stationary so thats the set point. You MAY be able to adjust the bridge...

    Improving Ovation Sound?

I have been on both sides of the ovation question. Seems the bottom line is that they either have a decent preamp pickup package, or they totally suck. The Shallow ones tend to suck. Very weak, way too much top end, and a high tendency to feedback. In those cases either micing or installing a...

The dude that borrows my stuff

You know I am with you fully here. I like to think of myself as a nice guy, and I do what I can to lend a hand. But when it gets to a point that the only time I see certain folks is when they need something, I put my foot down. More than once I have had to say "dude you only call me when your...

    Help setting up Rack

Hey Johny. Well the brain of your rack setup is going to be your mixer. And there really are a dozen ways you can set the whole shi-bang up. Seems to me that you want to take your "normal" playing guitar signal, with all of its assorted effects, and pump them into your computer to record an...

    intonationz...Professionalz

Intonation is simply "in tune". You want all three in tune together, tune all three to the same note (A440). I can't think of too many times I have played two guitars in any music store where they were in tune with one another. Every clown that picks one up decides to retune the damn thing...

    Santana?? Am I missing something???

and actually, I gather that the sway of this thread is an issue of "selling out". The whole concept of "selling out" is generally interpretive to the (in most cases jaded) fan base. Maybe folks are not so much selling out as they are evolving and yes, making a living. It's true that it would...

    Barring

First, barre chords are brutal to learn. Even if you have been playing "traditional" chords for years, the day you embark on the adventure of barres is a challenge. Yes, heavy guage strings are a tad harder to push down. Nylon strings are designed for a classical guitar. Metal strings are...

also... sound conditioning. Frequent issues of outboard vs/software pop up lots. What sound conditioning is better or worse if done pre or post recording (compression, EQ and the like). As well this may be suited as a clever pro/con commentary.
