    GearFest Mixing Contest

I'm guessing both - Make sure you make your Soundcloud file downloadable. You can select this option when you upload you file to Soundcloud. You can upload a 24 bit file direct to Soundcloud & it will transcode it to be able to be streamed as a 128kb/sec .mp3. As with any form of music...

    GearFest Mixing Contest

Hi, I haven't posted here for a while, but I thought I'd join in the fun with this contest - I noticed some who were worried about competing against pros with tons of high end gear. While experience & know-how is a very big factor in mixing ability, I wouldn't place too much importance on an...

A Song I Mixed is #1 on the Charts!

... well #1 on a chart... Its the Triple J "Unearthed" chart for unsigned bands - hopefully the next step is national radio play (maybe). Triple J is the national youth network radio station here in Australia & the song is #1 on the "Indie" chart & #3 overall. The artist is the band "Young...

Lock Up Yr Geetars! Redneck Rampage!!!

Thanks klutzee, Actually, I've heard of the Hellecasters, but haven't listened to any of their stuff... This was more inspired by SRV's Scuttle Buttin'. I plan to reamp the guitar with real amps, but often I supplement the real amp tones with amp sims. Thanks for listening & commenting

Lock Up Yr Geetars! Redneck Rampage!!!

Just a question... When you mention "tightening" are you referring to the timing or the sound? The reason I ask is that the timing of the bass playing is already very tight with the drums, but perhaps you're hearing something I'm not...

heatmiser & kcearl collab - can of beer - redux

Cool combination of electronic & acoustic sounds - nice balanced mix. One very minor (super-picky) thing that's probably just a personal taste matter is the snare sound... it really suits the song, but it kinda sounds like a one-shot sample, or at least a sample with not many velocity...

Lock Up Yr Geetars! Redneck Rampage!!!

Thanks Poetic - I usually slather UAD's Fatso on the drumbuss, & I think I may have overdone it... also, I think I hit the output limiter a bit to hard on this one - rushing again!.. ...um, I wasn't actually intending to add lyrics to this - It's kinda meant to be an instrumental in the SRV...

Lock Up Yr Geetars! Redneck Rampage!!!

Thanks for listening & commenting Heatmiser...Yeah, I think that "fizziness" is coming from the GR4 "Dual Riff" preset - I think its a Bogner & Mesa emulation or something - One area where real amps still beat emulations is giving that lovely low-mid "thickness" to a tone without it getting all...

Lock Up Yr Geetars! Redneck Rampage!!!

Yup, amp sims are definitely improving - When I do final mixes, my favourite thing to do is to mix up the sims with real amp sounds - that way you can mix & match amps that you have got with ones you haven't :D... When you do it right, it just adds that extra level of complexity, richness &...

Lock Up Yr Geetars! Redneck Rampage!!!

Thanks...No amps on this yet - I'm planning to re-amp it through my Mesa Lonestar Special & my THD Univalve, but at present its all just software amps - The main sound in the centre is Pod Farm "Skilletlicker" preset (Tweed Fender emulation) & the left & right channels have (at much lower...

Lock Up Yr Geetars! Redneck Rampage!!!

Here's a little 3 piece instrumental tune I'm working on - In it's very formative stages at present - a very, very rough mix... ...Any criticisms, arrangement, instrumentation suggestions welcome...Thanks You can listen to it here...

    Greg_L mix contest #2 - Suffragette City

Thanks Greg - yeah, I guess snare sounds are kind of a personal taste thing... I'm tending to react against all the "super-attacky" snare sounds that are in fashion at present. It seems a lot of engineers are overworking their Transient Designer boxes... ...um...& dont ask about the missing...

    Greg_L mix contest #2 - Suffragette City

Congratulations to Fishmed for winning! Your mix sounded full & clear & used all the elements in a really balanced way. A couple of questions for Greg (apologies if you covered this somewhere else & I missed it): The kick drum - There seemed to be absolutely no bleed in the kick drum mic. Did...

    inter-galactic space funk

Cool... I'm a sucker for a repetitive bassline & congas or latin percussion of any type. Nice development of the motif, & I like the interest you created with the different sounds appearing... personally, I prefer a fuller, boomier kick in this type of music - I'm no expert though, & I'm...
