Sound module for drums... Roland XV series??

Thanks mikeh, I'm liking this advice! :) As an aside regarding the costs, I know anything new has a hot price tag, but I remember buying my Yamaha MU80 sound module when it first came out (may have superceded the TG100)... early 90s, and I wouldn't of spent any more than 300 pounds... the...

Sound module for drums... Roland XV series??

Just had a look... the TD7 doesn't appear to have any expansion slots... I do like the drums on the TD7... but it's not mine. Would like a sound module with the latest drums and piano sounds... but then I see the price

what will I need to do to copyright my song?

 I'm not sure that's the 'official' view of the home office!

Sound module for drums... Roland XV series??

Thanks mikeh, your experience is exactly what I was looking for. As I say, the TD7 isn't mine (I have to keep asking our drummer for it everytime I want to record!) which I why I keep looking at the XV series... but if it isn't such a step forward then maybe it's cheaper to keep on asking...

what will I need to do to copyright my song?

Wow... this place is a goldmine... came here today to find out about a sound module and copyright laws... not disappointed ! Was just reading about copyright information on the BBC web site here in England... the legal 'expert' there recommends the post it to yourself method. After reading this...

Sound module for drums... Roland XV series??

hmmm.... typical ! just looking at the specs, the 2020 is perfect for me... except the dearer 5050 has digital out! ...and my old soundcard has digital in (which i've never used) what a tease.....

Sound module for drums... Roland XV series??

Thanks rjt! Good advice... will check the sample names. I was forgetting you could add expansion cards as well. As a money saving approach, I guess this means I could buy the cheapest XV series module. Then if for any reason I'm not satisfied with the built-in drums (or just get greedy) I...

Sound module for drums... Roland XV series??

I'm currently feeding my MIDI drums through a borrowed Roland TD7 sound module (from an electric drum kit) . The drums sound nice to me (better than my old Yamaha MU80 anyway) but I'm guessing the unit is at least 4-5 years old by now. I'm looking at the new Roland XV2020 or XV5050 sound...

    import of midi files

I've used n-track 3.0 and simply choosing midi input caused the program to crash. I've now got 3.3 and it's more stable, I can import midi files fine. Although when I export midi files (to edit using cubase) I only get the 2nd half of the midi track. Basically using midi in n-track will make you...

what the heck went wrong again?

I had a similar annoying hiss, I traced mine back to my Direct Pro soundcard. It has 4 inputs and I noticed channels 3 & 4 in the manager program were dancing slightly even with nothing plugged in. Disabling these channels stopped all hiss and my sanity returned. Luckily I only record one stereo...

N-track recording level ? Pt. II

Yeah, a good initial recording is important I feel. My first few mixes only had slight track volume changes, no compression or anything and sounded fine. Now I have all the knobs at my disposal I feel I'm tweaking all the time... Hmmm ntrack has a normalise option off the menu by default I...

Trying the Demo, have some ?

I guess looking at the spec of your soundcard is the best way of seeing what it can do... not sure if software can determine its quality. I splashed cash on an Aardvark Direct Pro soundcard a few years ago. Something like that is the minimum I think if you're serious about recording, my old sb...

    compressor

The bundled version is impossible to use! I blindly paid for it in the hope it would be useful for a rushed demo, and luckily it done the job! Think it's around 20 dollars.

N-track recording level ? Pt. II

We seem to be curious about the same things cellar. I tend to record as high as possible without clipping (minus about 5% for good measure) and the same when mixing down. From reading this forum the process appears to be to normalise certain tracks (increase volume so the loudest part is at the...

    compressor

Well I'm more than a bit new to all of this, but I use the compressor which comes bundled with ntrack. You need to get your credit card out though as without registering it cuts all sound every ten seconds. I've used it to beef up the drums and bass, and as a new toy I obviously used the...

Trying the Demo, have some ?

I was just in the middle of asking the same question cellardweller when I saw your reply at the bottom of my screen! Yeah, I've just obtained a mixer with built in effects and also interested how you can use the aux of ntrack to use any outboard gear instead of the built in software to save...

    MIDI lag during recording

The drummer came round last night... he played along perfectly to the click, I played it back and ... yep, you've guessed it... the click and the drums were having their own private parties! same old problem, made him sound really dodgy... he said ringo starr must have recorded here. There's...

    MIDI lag during recording

Hi morindae, I'm currently recording a band with an electric drum kit. Previously I've just recorded the audio from the kit, but drummers being drummers ;) they're never happy and want to repeat a roll or something. So next time I'm going to record the Midi, this will make after edits far...

    MIDI lag during recording

By the way, how come I've been using this great forum for about 4 years now yet I'm still a 'newbie' ? :p

    MIDI lag during recording

Don't worry, I've sorted it. If you set the Midi 'timer to use' as Wave instead of System Timer during the recording process everything appears nicely in sync, which is cool. I previously set this option but only before playback as I assumed anything to do with timers was a playback thing. D'oh
