In the category of mesh heads, it's also worth checking out products from Pintech. I've used them quite a bit, and really liked the feel. -mg

    Bedroom Studio & Monitor Placement

I'm looking for opinions on Monitor Placement in a bedroom studio. Right now, my desk, with the monitors on it, is in the worst possible position (off center, in the corner, against both walls). I'm working on rearranging the room, so that I can center the desk in the room. Should I also be...

I don't want to write it, but

oops, sorry, that FAQ is a sticky at the top of the recording.org site, not here. My bad. the suggestion is a good one. MODERATOR: Any way to get a link to the FAQ as a sticky? It would help a LOT to center everyone. -mg

How about reading the FAQ? It's in there.

    Sp B1 & B3

DISCLAIMER: I don't own either of these mics, nor have I heard them (yet). This is based solely on what I've read here (several times). Based on most of the posts I've read, there is a slight difference between the B1 and B3 (ie, the B1 is not just a cardioid-only version of the B3). That...

Poll: Who is responsible for all the crap on the radio? (NOTE - multiple answers ok)

Gotta agree, vehemently, with Mad Hack, and baniak (hey, that rhymes...) Music on the radio is no different from mass-produced sculptures or paintings for sale. After a while, you cater to what your customer wants, not solely to your artistic desires. Since the day that the music died (and...

    Ethan's traps vs. Auralex

There I go again, not expressing myself well. Please allow me one more shot. My expressed skepticism was not towards any post. My skepticism was from when I read the DIY plans, and the info at the RealTraps site. It sounded pretty technically reasonable, and certainly sounded like this was...

    Ethan's traps vs. Auralex

Ouch. I don't understand why I've provoked this reaction. I was skeptical of the claims of Ethan's DIY stuff being in a different league from the Auralex stuff. Not skeptical of your testimony, which I really respect and appreciate. I did misunderstand your original post. My bad...

Help me design my home studio

Oops, should have asked about that, too. My bad. What's your price range? If you just want to bring 2 channels into the computer (stereo outs from the mixer), you can do that pretty cheap. I don't know enough about the various models to comment. If you want to be able to bring 10 channels...

    Studio or comp. recording

Unless you have a) experience, or b) time on your side, it's pretty likely that you'll be unhappy with the home recording. Most of the folks on this board have spent a lot of time getting intimate with their gear, and that is what lets them get good sounds. I don't know of too many people who...

Help me design my home studio

It takes a little more work than running separate ins, because you have to get the mic balance at the mixer. So you can't raise the level of the snare to the floor tom after the fact. But it's by no means impossible; thousands of hit records were recorded with mono or stereo drum tracks in the...

    Ethan's traps vs. Auralex

Oh yeah, as for "have you read Ethan's site?", yes, I have. several times. Please forgive me if I'm skeptical of someone who is trying to sell me something. No knock on Ethan (he obviously knows his sh*t), but I like to consult multiple sources prior to taking a salesman's word. Thanks...

    Ethan's traps vs. Auralex

Tonio, Thanks! That's exactly the sort of testimony I was hoping to hear. No apologies necessary for the rant. What are you using for diffusors? Has anyone had any good experiences with Auralex (aside from Bruce Richardson at ProRec, who blew sunshine up their ass something fierce)? -mg

Help me design my home studio

I'm in Springfield (Union). Never realized that there was another one... If you've got a computer that you can check out some demos, I'd take a look at Sonar for sure. I don't know the quality of their demo, but go to www.cakewalk.com, and I think that you can find one there. I don't know...

    Mackie HR824's...

I heard the Blue Sky 2.1 last weekend. I was pretty unimpressed. They sounded tubby. Several folks in the room (treated studio) agreed. Definitely listed to 'em before you plunk down $ for 'em. -mg

    Event EZBus

Since this is still the Event forum, are there any EZBus users out there? Does anyone know of an active EZBus forum? I'm really curious to find out what uses people have for their EZBuses. And down with the vocals forum!!! ;-) -mg

    Ethan's traps vs. Auralex

nwsoundman, have you had any experience with auralex-treated rooms? I don't have much doubt that Ethan's traps are good stuff. I haven't really heard any rooms treated with either in a before/after scenario. Also, what was the mod you made to Ethan's DIY traps to make them portable? Thanks!

    Help on purchase!!!

As for gear, I'd look into: ~$1500 on a top-of-the-line computer setup. Look in to building your own. ~$1000 on an audio interface. Depends on what your simultaneous input needs are, how many mic pre's, digital in/outs, etc. You could save money here, or you could go turbo. If money...

    Help on purchase!!!

SoMM, I respectfully disagree. I haven't used the Yamaha, so keep that in mind. I have used a few Roland all-in-one boxes, as well as both the O2/R and the O1V. Yamaha makes great stuff, and if you're into all-in-one boxes, I'm sure that it's a good solution. I HIGHLY advocate the CPU-based...
