    Levels question

Maybe I'm not explaining it correctly. I always thought if you set the levels for each track to just below clipping, then you wouldn't have clipping. But when I play back both tracks simultianeouly in the Multitrack view, they clip. It's like the two tracks' volumes are adding together. This...

    Levels question

I'm using 2 mics for acuoustic guitar. I set the individual mic levels so that they are almost to, but not in, the red on my 24/96 card. It records fine w/o clipping. Then when I playback, I get major clipping. I'm assuming the 2 levels are adding together somehow? So, my question is, how...

need help with recording with adobe audition

Hmmm. Pretty judgmental reply, Mr. sscientist. Last time I checked, my posts weren't required to meet with your approval. Please do the world a favor and save your posting advice for someone who cares. Have a nice day. The Total Training DVDs are an EXCELLENT way to learn AA 1.5...

    Questions about RCA cables

So would it be better to use 1/4" balanced cables out of the mixer into the sound card? It's a 24/96 sound card with RCA inputs so I'd need some kind of adapter?

    Questions about RCA cables

Is there a maximun lenght you can run RCA cables from say, a mixer to a soundcard? Also, is there anything wrong with using adapters to attach the cables together to get more length? thanks

Considering buying Oktava MC 012/MK 012 from GC

Lots of threads on the differences, just search. If I could get one for $60, I'd grab it. I tried getting one a few weeks ago and GC said there were only like 12 left in all their stores (unfortunately, none in my city.) I bought a russian one off ebay, just arrived today! Can't wait to get...

Learning the Fretboard. I found this site helpful...

Interesting link. If learning the fretboard is something you want to do, I highly suggest this program: http://www.softempire.com/absolute-fretboard-trainer.html Just do it for a few minutes each day and pretty soon you'll know it like the back of your hand. As for patterns I think they're...

re-naming tracks + clicks with Silence in Edit

I've noticed after you do this the punched track is now it's own separate track which creates problems if you then need to edit the track(s) in Edit mode. Like if you wanted to add noise reduction or EQ, you'd have to do it to all tracks. What's the best way to overcome this? Should you...

Micing Acoustic Guitar with these mics...

Okay, so assuming I'm going into a mixer, I'd pan the mics on the mixer as you said. But then in the recording software (AA 1.5,) do I record them as separate tracks? And so I need to pan there as well?

Micing Acoustic Guitar with these mics...

Side question... What's the best way to mix 2 mics for acoustic? Pan each hard L/R or blend them together?

    Vai or Satriani

The problem with this kind of question is it's highly subjective. Maybe if the OP defined what "technically better," means it would be easier to answer. Otherwise it's just personal preference as they're obviously both very talented players. As to their styles being soulless, again it's just...

    Flamm guitar picks

Never tried one, but looks like a gimmick to me. If you want to play two notes at the same time, just learn to fingerpick ;)

    SSSuper Overdrive

Get the OD-3 - it's a better pedal, IMO. Not as "thin" sounding. Edit: Whoops nevermind. thought you said "OD-1," Don't know anything about the SD-1.

    inexpensive condenser mics

Instead of a preamp, you might want to look at this mixer. It has decent pres built in AND you get a mixer. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/fg=141/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/631238/

    Ebay Auction

I agree. It pretty much gives him license to sell you something that doesn't work. I'm in the market for one of these as well but there seems to be no shortage of them on eBay (at least 1-2 a week, I've noticed,) So I'll probably wait on another one. I was bummed to hear GC isn't selling even...

    Pepsi Challenge - MXL603s vs. Octava 012

I considered doing a steel string guitar test as well, but turns out I didn't have the time. I had to give back the Octava that I borrowed (reluctantly,) :) I'm glad this test helped you out; it was a learning experience for me as well.
