I use 3 OH's. Two unidirectional mics L and R and then a cardiod mic dead center. Seems to be a little more depth to the cymbal crashes since I made the switch.

lead vocals sound a lot like Dexter Holland from The Offspring. I like this track a lot. Not too overdone, yet not to bare. Very well balanced. It feels like it should be on the radio.

looks ok to me. I still prefer desktops in studios since it's easy to diagnose a hardware problem. But the laptop you're considering should more than suit your needs. What's the OS? is is 64-bit?

I have a Mackie SR24-4 VLZ PRO in the studio that I'm looking to replace with possibly an Allen & Heath type board. I use the mackie on the road for live stuff.

Depends on what your needs are. Are you looking to do more larger studio work or do you need something simple and portable?

I've used both a MOTU 8pre and a PreSonus Firestudio Project and have no complaints about them. Both should work with Protools.

guitar levels could come down a bit. the kick sounds a bit too punchy. Could use more low end from the bass too.

guitar sounds nice and warm but like PDP said, everything seems bunched up between 100 and 800hz. i would also do away with the reverb effect on the lead vocals at the very beginning. excellent performance though. reminds me of three days grace.
