    Who Gets the Low End?!!

Other. I believe the low end is all frequencies 500hz and below because any instrument can tonally lack a "low end".

    Mixing As You Go?

I track dry (w/out eq and comp although some recommend comp to remove clipping) and mix as I go. It's boring for me to listen to a mix with no "realness" factor.

    Civil Disobedience, Say Hey

Yea I haven't gone ahead and chopped up all the dead space yet because I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. I agree with Greg about the drummer. He can sometimes take too much of a creative license but at the same time I don't want him getting too basic. I agree with the vocals being wicked...

    Let me introduce myself...

I've been posting here occasionally since last August but I don't think I ever formally introduced myself. So.... My names Rob and I'm 17. I'm a kick-ass sax player and I play in an alternative band called Muster Station. We have about 6 solid originals and we cover Dispatch and State Radio...

    Civil Disobedience, Say Hey

Haven't been around here in a while but I finally have something worth posting. These are two new songs that my band recorded about a month ago. They were tracked completely live with the exception of the sax and guitar solos and acoustic guitar on Say Hey. The only thing that I added in the...

    Friday (Cover): no joke

No problem. I've never used autotune before so I'm learning as I go. And believe me, those bass notes bother me as much as the next guy, I didn't have time during this particular session to go back and re-do it but I could bring the bassist in over the weekend to patch it up (it's just an open...

    Friday (Cover): no joke

It's not my band but i will mention to them that they should reconsider adding it. I will probably have to switch autotune into grid mode and manually correct every note. Also, I probably mentioned this up top but the gang chorus uses the harmonizer not the lead vocals (like what Ke$ha uses in...

    Friday (Cover): no joke

okay so maybe you've heard it maybe you haven't but Friday by Rebecca Black has gone viral. So viral, in fact, I had a local band in the studio tracking their demo and they decided to add this to the mix. They put a rock/alternative kind of spin on it but its still the same concept and lyrics...

BIG--> Why do MAC's tend to have less issues than PC's ???

I just don't understand why people have to hate on Windows. Windows 7 is a perfectly good operating system but people insist on installing it on older hardware. There is no reason, in my opinion, why a Windows PC running at or above system requirements can't have the same performance as a Mac...

Recording Live Vs Individually/Mainstream Bands off time?

All of my recordings are done live but I never send a click track to the drummer. Sometimes I think it makes the tune feel un-natural or mechanical if the drummer is to focused on keeping time. But I suppose if I ever get a drummer who can't keep tempo to save his life then I'd probably break...

Mixing on Console vs. mix "In The Box"

wasn't sure if i should vote for daw w/ console or daw "in box" since I use a mackie control universal pro to do the mixing in the DAW for me.

    motu pci-424e card

i got a pci-424e (e for pci-e) card in my studio pc that interfaces with my motu hd 192, but every time i shut down the computer, the computer never shuts itself off. I have to go to go to the back and shut it off via the power supply switch (not cool). I was wondering if there's anyone else...

    recording freq poll

96khz/24 bit. originally 48khz/24 bit before the switch to x64 windows which improved buffering dramatically. my motu hd192 can go as high as (you guessed it) 192khz/32 bit. when some Japanese company come along and changes the Red Book standard, ill be ready. :D

Please listen and review.. Home recordings!

I'll throw in my two cents. These compositions are absolutely beautiful. I love how you're not limiting yourself to traditional singer/songwriter type material. I hear a lot of diffent influences in your work (i.e alternative, punk, screamo :) ). This is some of the best original work I've...

    Ideal Ratios For Lead Vocals

The title speaks for itself lol. I was wondering what are the "ideal" (in quotes since theres room for variation) compression ratios are for lead vocals?
