    Track sheets

Yes, you could save all those settings, but you know - I just don't anymore. It's just my own style of working - and it won't work for everyone - but I like starting from a zero'd board everytime I sit down for a mix or re-mix. If it's recorded right, there are only tweaks that you need to do...

    Tell me about EQ's

A bit of a generalization but it wouldn't be extreme to say that 31-band EQs and the like are essentially useless in the recording studio (although as Kelly pointed out, very useful in a live setting.) In a recording setting, if you need to EQ at all, then you need to control specific...

    Are Mackie mixer the best?

Yes, Allen & Heath are somewhat pricier than Mackies, and they are very, very good. Bruce

    What monitors to get?

Auratones... no contest! :D Seriously, I use PS-6s matched with a sub - and they're JUST GREAT! :) Bruce

digital recording in the early 80s

mmmm, 14-bit - yummy!!!! :D Isn't that a nice warm nostalgic feeling - the early days of digital - kinda like the harsh, raspy crispness of 1st generation CD players.... ahhhh, now THAT was fidelity! :D yikes..... ;) Bruce

    Sorry, wrong room...

The big advantage of the Pro is it's use of the +4 gain structure and some extra I/O (including digital), but the sounds and amp simulations are the same between both models. Bruce

    no line output

Try it - adjust volume to a suitable level so that it doesn't distort - it should work alright. You should be able to find the appropriate connectors/cables from Radio Shack (I can't tell you 'cos I don't know what kinds of gozintas and gozoutas you're working with!) Bruce Blue Bear Sound

    Kid Rock "Cowboy" effect

Er, no.... but thanks for sharing... ...sorry but you are wrong.... the Autotune was RELEASED in 1998 (look at any of Antares latest ads in Mix/EQ - they even say it right there). The Cher tune was RELEASED in 1998, but PRODUCTION on that song occurred in 1997. So unless they were using a...

    RNC More than One?

Yes... you'd need 2 - one for kick, one for snare.... One RNC is a coupled two-channel processor (meaning although it takes 2 channels of input, the controls operate on both channels simultaneously - for stereo mixes). For all other purposes it is a single channel unit (and it doesn't matter...

    The Ultimate Utility Condenser?

Audio-Technica - 4041 (lower cost), 4051 (higher cost). (BTW these are small-diaphragm - so I wouldn't use 'em on vocals myself, but you could try. Most vocals would normally be handled with some flavor of large-diaphragm, but there are no hard-and-fast rules!) Bruce Valeriani Blue Bear Sound

    Sorry, wrong room...

David, I use the POD Pro in the studio, it's great! Should work on violin quite well, especially if you're looking for hard, edgier tones. (I personally don't find the POD works nearly as well on clean tones - compared to a well-mic'd amp - but its dirty tones are really quite good!) Bruce

Er, no.... you missed what I said - the Autotune WASN'T IN PRODUCTION when that Cher tune was recorded..... ;) *insert Twilight Zone music here* :D Bruce

    RNC settings

Oh yeah.... forgot to tell ya, set the Attack all the way to the left (fast setting) so that it clamps down on the signal very quickly (for limiting purposes). Bruce
