    Entry-level interface with pre-amp(s)

    It seems to me that, when choosing an entry-level interface/sound card - say, in the $150 to $300 range - one of the most important considerations is whether or not the card has usable preamps. If it doesn't, it might cost the same amount again to buy a preamp of the same caliber as the card...

    Anyone actually pay for synths? NO it's not a pirating question

    ""When I still had Reason, there were so many sounds to choose from I spent most of my time trying to decide which ones to use. The sounds of the free/cheap synths can be real good, but to be honest, I've yet to use one that sounded anywhere close to Reason's sounds (strings, pads, etc.)...

    Anyone actually pay for synths? NO it's not a pirating question

    "It is very convenient to have low standards!" "Right.... I guess if you want your songs to sound bad I guess it is." Sounds to me that person A made a tongue-in-cheek comment, person B followed in the same vein, more or less, and person A went ballistic and ground out profanitites...

    Hi-Z inputs;

    Well, Hi-Z inputs don't seem all that common or popular on cards costing a few hundred dollars. Is the simulator thing the only use for them?

    Hi-Z inputs;

    I read a blurb: "If you plan on recording direct guitars into your computer and then using a guitar simulator plugin, it is recommended that you select a soundcard that has at least 1 high impedance input." Is that all they are good for: using a guitar simulator plugin? If a guitar simulator...

    Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

    I should add, that I work for a guy who is fairly well off. He has an office full of computers, and all the software on it is pirated. Why buy it, when your 'tech guy' says "I'll take care of it?"

    Do you really buy that expensive recording software?

    I disagree. It has very little to do with that. People steal because they can. In most stealing, there is danger of being caught. In stealing music, there is very little risk. If people could steal their mortgage/rent, electricity, heat, telephone service, insurance, and groceries, as...

    Tracktion 3

    Yes, the real drums sound better. Is the Sonor product considered a good one? Do loops ever sound as good as the real thing? Were these tracks done with T2 or t3? Thanks

    Tracktion 3

    There are some interesting sounds there, BushmasterM4. I quite liked Hillbilly Groove, which didn't sound at all Hillbilly, but was fairly groovy. It sounds like a modern blues-rock thing to me.

    Tracktion 3

    I don't see much around in the way of reviews of Tracktion 3. I'm wondering if anyone here has any knowledge of it, or if someone [more knowledgeable than myself] would be so kind as to have a look at the two sites below and examine all that stuff, most of which is over my head, and opine as to...

    How do you disable onboard video

    Well, I DON'T, so to speak. I mean, the Sweetest of Women is going to take me shopping for one between Xmas and New Years, and it MAY be a brand name, although I may be able to snivel and whine my way into a Joe's computer shop custom job. If it's a brand name, it is likely to be a Compaq.
