    Lend me your ear

The website is dope! I'm not really into the music too much though. Not that I don't like rap, I love some good hip hop, but I like stuff that's less... busy/hardcore; stuff like outkasts, tribe called quest, Method Man and the clan, etc. My Shawty is pretty good, but my favorite is Gunz by...

Jazz- "You must take the A-train" - mixing/mastering suggestions

Thanks for all your suggestions! I tried the 2khz cut and it really smoothed things out with a 1.2 Db cut. I plan on experimenting with this a lot (maybe 2.5khz would make a better cut,etc.). I brought the bass up a teeny bit (0.4 Db). I'm still messing with the panning though. As soon as I...

Jazz- "You must take the A-train" - mixing/mastering suggestions

Thanks for the notice! The song is updated now. Any suggestions on mixing?

Jazz tune - anyone know jazz?

Here's a mix I made of some recordings that my friend's band did. My friend plays bass and was hoping that I could mix a cd for him. I'm just interested in what ya'll think of my first pass at this one. I think it floats, but there are subtelties to work on...

    A mind boggling question.

here's a more appropriate example... Take a song, any song, and isolate one channel. Now try to mess with the EQ to get a certain sound isolaated (pretty rough huh) If the bass is in the middle, then you will have it protruding into the guitar that is panned far right. If you manage to somehow...

Jazz- "You must take the A-train" - mixing/mastering suggestions

First of all, how is the mix? This is for a friend of mine that plays bass in a jazz band. He wants me to mix a cd from some live recordings another friend did. Supposedly, this guy is becoming renowned for his live audio abilities (in Atlanta). But, I think that some parts are recorded poorly...

    It's as Simple as Today

Anybody else? The left panned rhythm guitar, vocals, and drums are recorded through an Audio Technica PR-99 into An Aardvark Q10. The rest of the tracks are DI'd into the Q10. I would like some mixing suggestions and ways I could boost my sound to achieve a smoother texture.

Surfs Up! Ventures Walk Don't Run

It does sound too rigid. I like the far away sound of the cymbals, but I don't think it works so well for the snare. Aloha!

    If it's on by cha

I dig the song. The kick drum sounds too compressed, or maybe the release is set too low. The main voice could come up a tiny, tiny bit. The bass is way too low. I can barely hear it on my speakers and for this type of music you want it up front, as loud as the kick. How did you get the killer...

    Help me name this tune!

well, it would be better if I had the lyrics in front of me. It's hard to catch the theme just listening to it. Nightime seems to be a recurring theme. It was hard to follow the words because they are so spread out and it seems that the song is just dragging its feet to the distant end (personal...

Using listener suggestions, i have a new pass at "Choices"

Sounds like the bass could use some more umph. Try compressing it or simply bringing it up a notch.

    It's as Simple as Today

If I wanted comments on playing I would have asked for such, but I was wanting comments on mixing and production (please read original post). BTW, I used a click track to record all the parts so if something is mistimed, it's because I have a long way to go to becoming a great musician, not...

i know i'm probably in the wrong thread....

Ummm...I would redo it all personally. Take it easy on the effects and try to sing into the mic with a more consistent volume, get a windscreen, and maybe look into vocal lessons.

    It's as Simple as Today

I would like some comments on this song regarding mixing and production. Any other comments/suggestions are welcome as well 8) I know the drum sucks, I'm getting a drummer to come and lay down some tracks, unless someone on here would care to...

    Help with EQ technique

That's a lot of questions!! First of all, if your tone does not sound like your reference tone when it is recorded, then EQ will not get you there. EQ should be applied subtly, if you find yourself tweaking the EQ a whole bunch then it's probably safe to assume that you got a bad recording in...

    Compansion with plug-ins

I'm interested in trying some compansion with my plug-ins in Magix, but I'm not sure if I have the right settings. First of all, will compansion work if the compression and expansion are processed simultaneously as plug-ins. Also, what are some good settings for this. I'm looking to apply it to...

How is this cascading pan effect done?

I'll have to go with Tex, it sounds like good ole delay to me, but this is how it sounds to me. It sounds like they left one track clean, or basically clean with a little flange and a touch of distortion. Then it sounds like they did a stereo delay panning with a doubled track. It also sounds...

    Aardvark Q10 and Magix

Thanks, I think that's it! I downloaded n-tracks to test it and I got 24 bit recording on it. Next up to try is sonar.

    Aardvark Q10 and Magix

I just got this and am troubled to see that Magix sees the Q10 as 16 bit. Anyone else here experience this, or know how to remedy it. I'm running a P4 2.6 512ram XP. I tried another audio program with the Aardvark and it showed up as 16 bit as well.

    C-Port Question

Those inputs (1/2, 3/4, etc.) are stereo inputs. If you want to record the drums on different track then you would need to plug one mic into input 1/2 and one mic into input 3/4. Or, for example, you could decide that you want a delay effect on your kick and run a mic from your kick into a delay...
