thanks. most of the bands that ive recorded have gone over 8 tracks just for drums (i record mostly metal bands with 2 mics for bass drum) and most of them would have averaging 3-6 toms plus room mics

im currently recording a hardcore band right now and before a breakdown they want what they call "bass booms" to intensify the effect of the breakdown. when i listened to a sample..it sounded like a tom that was just messed around with. but how can i achieve that sound?

i havent tried them personally but i have tried various zildjian hats (K custom Dark, Z Mastersound, A Newbeat) Basically all the higher end zildjians will do good. I mean the pulse hats sound like shit because they are...cheap you get what you paid for. i hope it helped man.
