is there a way i can get rid of the two second gap bettween tracks on my CDR?

You need to change the record mode to "disk at once". Check your manuals or the programs help to see how to do this (if you have Adaptec Easy cd creator theres a box you can check in the record dialog box) -Nate K

    Need your advice on computer

BTW, I just checked out that benchmark page, and the chip being being benchmarked is a K6-3. K6-3 is not the same thing as an Athlon. (you'll notice I didn't even consider the K6-2 and K6-3 as being worthy of mention on my earlier post). Not trying to start a fight or anything, just thought...

    Need your advice on computer

re: fpu stuff, floating point operations are by nature less accurate and slower than integer math. Since digital audio is neatly quantized into 16 bits (or maybe 24 or 32 on higher end stuff), digital audio data lends itself quite nicely to integer arithmatic. If 3dnow is so pathetic, why did...

    Need your advice on computer

Here's a rundown on the PC processor debate (i am without Mac knowledge, so I will refrain from mentioning them): PII/PIII: these are based on exactly the same architecture, except PIII's have support for some new instructions aimed at speeding up 3d graphics. The real advantage of a PIII is...

Difference between CD-R and CD-R/W drives?

All you need to do what you want is a CD-R. CD-RW's give you the option of using special (and more expensive) rewritable disks that you can write to more than once. If you don't use the special disks than CD-RW's are no different from CD-R's.

    NIN guitar sound?

The homemade box I refer too is basically just a really horrible a/d and d/a convertor. Exactly how horrible it is at any given moment is adjustable. If you convert a signal to digital with too low a sampling rate you get a phenomena called aliasing, which basically means false information is...

    "Live in the Studio"

Yes, just an ordinary vcr and yes only stereo. Thats why I say the mix is 'set in stone'. For a live type recording thats all you really need though. -nate k [This message has been edited by nkiner (edited 10-31-1999).]

    NIN guitar sound?

One thing you have to remember about NIN is that trent does a LOT of sound processing on his computer. Because of this, a lot of the things he does to his guitar sound can't necessarily be duplicated in real time, at least not with any commercially available effects that I know of. I'm working...

    "Live in the Studio"

It's doable, you'll just need some sort of mixer, and two members (bass and drums perhaps) will have to share a track. And really, you're gonna need a mixer anyway to get a submix on the drums, cause you'll have a real hard time getting a good drum sound with just one mic. My band actually...

    Cassettes

Heres a little basic multitrack cassette recorder theory. To keep things simple, I'll speak in terms of a four track. Eight tracks work the same way, the tracks are just 'thinner'. Your standard tape is already designed to be used with four tracks. These four tracks are side1 left, side1...

Mixing down to High end cassettes.

Most definately. In fact, the Maxell XL-II is most peoples tape of choice. However, I HIGHLY recommend mixing down to your computer. Its not hard, and doesn't need any special hardware other than a pretty standard stereo soundcard (an adequate one almost definately came with your computer)...

    newbie guitarist buys new guitar...

"Fade to Black" was my first tune too. Spooky. It sure did suck trying to learn how to finger pick that verse riff when I couldn't even really play a chord right. Which brings me to my point: don't start out trying anything too complex. Smells like teen spirit is a great place to start for...

    A half-baked idea...

I've been looking for a good excuse to go to New Orleans (never been there). Sounds like the beginning of a suitably diabolical plan. And if things get too weird, we've got the perfect excuse to explain ourselves. "The devil made me do it". -Nate K

    The Common Blind

I think the mic probably has more to do with it then the compression. (we used and Alesis compressor, by the way.) The mic is an AKG condensor. The part number escapes me (we borrowed the thing from my brother, and I'm not all that knowledgable about mics). The exact mic isn't the point...

    A half-baked idea...

Hey, I'm down. Not that I need much of an excuse to go hang out and get plastered ... And Nate at least doesn't have a wife. Apparantly women don't find the whole beer drinking, partying, no responsibilities thing very apealing. heh. -a slightly intoxicated nate k

    New Bass

My bass is one of the ibanez ergodyne models. Great tone, incredible action, totally badass looking, and a three band eq built right on to the thing. I love the hell out of it. -Nate K

    More low-tuned gunk

Regarding the vox, I didn't really mean there was too much low end ( so much as theres like no highs at all. Which again is part of the sound you're going for. If you bump the vox a bit in like the 6kHz+ range it might give it a bit more presence. Also (and this might totally suck, what the...

    More low-tuned gunk

I like it, which kind of came as a surprise since I despise most of the artists on your "sounds like" list. Mr Bungle kicks ass, and the Deftones are pretty damn good, but thats about it. Anyway, guitar riff kicks ass, should maybe be a little louder. Bass sounds good, but it's a little...

jazz tune if you'd care to listen...

Not to shabby. I've never been much of a fan of synthesized horns, but then we can't go carting a horn section around with us all the time, can we? (I used to play trumpet myself back in the day, albeit poorly). The guitar was groovy stuff though: good tone, and some pretty cookin riffs...

    Recording the piano

I've always recorded piano by opening the top and positioning a mic a little ways inside and dead center as far as left to right (you'll need some sort of mic stand to do this, and i'm talking about an upright piano by the way.)If you had two mics you could put one on the left and one on the...
