MOTU 828 MKII not seeing my SP C4's

OK, I just looked at the MOTU page, and those jacks on the front are COMBO 1/4/XLR, so you need to plug an XLR cable into the input. Those combo jacks can be confusing to new folks. Good luck!

MOTU 828 MKII not seeing my SP C4's

Read my reply!!!!! The phantom power is only sent through the XLR inputs! You need a cable with XLR connectors on BOTh ends. Not sure why you can only connect 1/4 to the pres, I'm not familiar with your unit, but EVERY pre I've seen for the 8 years I've been doing this has XLR inputs for...

MOTU 828 MKII not seeing my SP C4's

Here's your problem! The C4s are condenser microphones and require phantom power. On 99.99999999% of all preamps, the phantom power only runs through the XLR connection. The Shure doesn't need phantom power so you were able to get away with connecting the microphone to the 1/4" input. You...

    recording with equipment granted...

The Waves plug-ins came with a pretty decent manual that explains how to use reverb, compression, etc... Also do a search on this site for this stuff. As for "good rates" on a compression, that's impossible to answer and once you understand the nature of compression, you'll know why it's...

    recording with equipment granted...

Shouldn't this stuff had been sorted out before blowing $500 on Waves? Plug mics into firepod. Point mics at instruments. Press record on your recording software. During mixing, if a track needs a plug-in, use that plug-in. :) Oh, you need recording software (such as Cakewalk/Sonar/N-Track)...

Help!! I want software/equipment so I can make demos?

Look into N-Track (http://www.fasoft.com) It's cheap (~$60) and is pretty powerful. Ditto on the recommendation to buy a book or two on the subject. Get the basics down, and then come back if you need help with some specific product recommendations.

    Just got a cassette four-track...

Hey, that first picture is the exact unit I got back in 1990, when I was 13 years old, wow takes me back! Had alot of fun with that unit.

    Question....please help.

If your room is not acoustically treated and sounds bad, better equipment (accurate condenser mics/sensitive pres, etc...) will probably make your recordings sound worse! Seriously! My first home "studio" was in an untreated basement of a rental townhouse. Linoleum floors, low ceilings, bare...

Try exporting it with a 44.1khz sampling rate and 16-bits. This is what CDs need anyway.

    Delta 1010LT: no phantom power

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Delta1010LT-focus.html No mention of phantom power, not sure why you thought it would come with phantom power.

There's also a new plug-in called "Slapback echo remover" and "standing-waves remover" I'm still waiting for the "Tony Rice Flatpicking Plugin"

    bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Check out http://www.frets.com for lots of good info on acoustic guitar setup. A reputable shop should be able to give your guitar a good setup for around $50. Action is adjusted by a combination of nut slot filing and saddle sanding/shimming (to adjust the height of the saddle). If there is...

    Ear training..?

Nope, an E major triad consists of an E, G#, and a B (the I iii and V of the E major scale). If you're in the key of C, the notes E,D,and C are the iii, ii and I of the C major scale. They really don't make up a "chord" per se. Are you sure you know "most of" music theory? Chord construction...

    Buying/building a home studio

Borrowed from TimOBrien (hope you don't mind!) My obligatory standard reply that I keep in Wordpad: Immediately get a good beginner recording book (spend $20 before spending hundred$/thousand$) that shows you what you need to get started and how to hook everything up in your studio: Home...

Help me build a simple home studio =)

Seriously, work on learning your musical vocabulary first - I mean actually learning an instrument and playing it fairly well. Then tackle recording. Recording is just as challenging as learning an instrument, but you really should be pretty proficient with music before learning recording - IN...

    Ear training..?

I don't have perfect pitch, but I can hear intervals pretty easily. Say I hear that the progression in a song is I-iii-IV-I, I then just have to pick up my guitar (or sit at the piano) and narrow down the key. So then I find out it's in A (for example, "The Weight" is what I had in mind for this...

    Most user friendly recording software?

N-Track (http://www.fasoft.com) is less then $100. I've been using it for years. Works great, and although it's cheap, it does what it's supposed to. If you're on a budget, I'd much rather put more money into the hardware (mics, converters, pre-amps) and monitoring then the software. If your...
