    Buying new acoustic

Larrivee OM03R. Under $1K, solid wood throughout, real nice ebony bridge/fingerboard. Jean Larrivee really knows his spruce! A bit sparse on looks, but has killer tone. I also have a $2500 Santa Cruz OM/PW, and the Larrivee compares nicely with the Cruz.

    General Question About Chords

ummmm, yeah! Why not? Get with your buddy and both of you play a G at the same time. How does it sound? Generally this is how you want to do things if you want to make "music". Now you play a G chord, and have your buddy play an F# chord. Probably doesn't sound as good now?

    Major problems with mixer mic..

Hey Studiowebx - You think you might want to give us more details? Like what brand/model of mixer you are using? BTW, most "mixers" don't have a tape recorder in them, so we really have no idea what you are asking. Good luck, I guess...

Is there a way to figure out what frequency audio is at?

Doah! Thanks for correcting me! Been staring at C++/CORBA code all day (yuck!)

Can you repeat that in English please?

    question about 2-track

I think anyone interested in home recording should first learn on a cassette 4-track. You learn about basic multitracking, buses, mixing down, aux sends, yada yada yada. I think it is much better than going out and spending $2K on a digital board and coming here and asking "how do I hook it...

Is there a way to figure out what frequency audio is at?

When you pluck a low 'A' string on your guitar, the "main" frequency is 440hz (ie the "pitch"). The overtones/harmonics (ie other frequencies) is what makes the note sound like it came from a guitar, rather than a piano/flute/sin wave generator (ie the "timbre")

    Computer Recording clipping

I was thinking the exact same thing! Dude, this is basic Mixing 101. You've been doing this for how long? You are starting to record other bands? (I hope you don't charge them $) You (claim to) have a studio? With a name and everything? You have three tracks peaking at -4. You sum them...

how does T-Racks work! Are there alternatives?

errr, could you translate please? I think you meant to type "Never mind, I meant something else" (hey, at least you spelled "else" correctly!)

    Landslide

Capo 3 (or whatever works for your voice) C C/B Am | G/B C OR C G/B Am | G/B C (basically you can use either C/B and G/B to get from C to Am and back to C) The "chorus" is G D/F# Em | C /B Am D7/F# :| I always add embellishments to the Em such as Em9 (add a D and an F# note). Fun song to...

Why the heck would T-Racks be installed on a server?

Anyone know any rocking, vintage guitars? (affordable)

    Boomy acoustic guitar :(

DO NOT POINT THE MIC DIRECTLY AT THE SOUNDHOLE! The majority of the sound of an acoustic is actually the vibrating of the top (which gets started by the strings vibrating, and then having that vibration transmitted to the top via the saddle/bridge.) Most people think that the sound "shoots"...

    Folk sized guitars

If you can stretch to about $800 (or go used), Larrivee OM03 (or OM03R). Nothing else in that price range compares, both in construction, tone, quality of the wood, features, and (arguably) playability. I've played the Epiphone Masterbilts, the new Guild GAD, and other brands, but the Larrivee...

    My new acoustic

I would guess MadAudio lives in Washington D.C. I know that because I graduated High School (and paid attention in class). If you're still in High School, I'll forgive you. If you have graduated already, that's a sad commentary on what kids are (not) learning these day.

    My Antares Processor and auto-tuner

hmmmm, I would think if you were at a point to record your songs, you would know what key the song is in. This is why engineers (and hopefully musicians!) should know a bit about music and music theory. Knowing what key a song is in is pretty important (and fairly "basic" stuff). But hey, if...

Can I use sm57 for an Acoustic Guitar?

I've had good luck in live solo acoustic guitar settings with an SM-57 on my Santa Cruz OM/PW. The preamp will have a big effect on the sound as well. I was going into a Mackie 1604 VLZ. I'm sure if I was going into a Great River, it would sound killer! Gillian Welch and her partner David...
