Unless you just want a patent for the prestige of it. You probably mean a "utility" patent. A "design" patent would be a lot cheaper, but almost useless for the proposed idea. If they are clearly infringing the patent, I know of many attorneys who would gladly take on the case on commission...

Heh. I try to do both. I.e., I try to smile, etc. while playing well. I sometimes even try to make faces that match my playing. For example, I'll make a screaming face when I hit a screaming pinch harmonic... Which looks damn funny when I botch the harmonic and it makes a *twank* sound...

I personally use compressors to compensate for crappy vocalists who can't control their volume. Like Gidge said, loud in some places, quiet in others. One particular vocalist has serious problems with volume (me). ;) I also often use compression on bass and drums for punch.

Another good cheap compressor is the Behringer Composer Pro. (No offense intended Littledog. I use it next to my RNC).
