    Designs on You (demo)

Joseph, I'll reply fully tomorrow, I'm having a bit of a week and I can't reply honestly unless I spend time reading and listening properly. I noticed you'd posted but I simply have had a busy spell. All the best my friend. Tim

opinnions on a Line 6 spider IV?

I have a guitar student I teach once a week, he owns a a variant of that combo and I have to say that if it were mine I'd have have dropped it off a tall building weeks ago. The problem for my student is that he has a limited understanding of the settings and once he turns the damn thing off...

    Bass Simulator for Guitar

If you get really pushed, you could download freebie midi composer and use a midi bass sound, there is usually a selection of bass sounds, some are pretty convincing if used with a bit of common........ all the best Tim

    Execution vs Cosposition

Joseph, Many thanks for listening and your thoughts, much appreciated. Yes I have an album in my sights and the idea is to work on new material until later this year and then I'll have 25-30 tracks to pick from, which will give plenty of scope to pick a dozen or so which I feel represent the...

My voice - what do you think ?

Video is private again.............might be good etiquette to state that this thread has become irrelevant to save people wasting their time. regards Tim

another what do you think thread

I like the tone of your voice, I think you probably need to work on your mixing more than your singing ability. There are a few notes which don't quite hit their mark but that's simply corrected by doing more takes until you completely nail it. The vocal hangs over this track and does not sit as...

    Stupid question about cover songs/remakes

Personally I think you have that choice to make. Obviously if you present a cover where you intimate that it's supposed to mimic the original in every way and it doesn't, people will likely point out the anomalies. If you present what is an interpretation of a song, then it should be listened to...

    Tc helicon voiceworks

The presets represent a snapshot of what can be done with the voiceworks. Personally I find a tone which is somewhere near suitable and then edit the many adjustments available to tailor it to get exactly what I want. You can alter many aspects of a preset to create your own stored presets which...

bought so many mics thinking it'll make me sound better....does this happen to you?

No. It doesn't happen to me because I know the mics I bought are capable even if I'm not. Tim

    chorus pedal

I don't think I'd started shaving when I bought this but if you can find one I'd recommend it, the stereo out actually works. I often used it to run two amps. The tone is excellent for what it is. Tim

What is wrong with my voice?

I don't think your voice is bad, but your recording quality is awful. To be fair I don't think you'll be able to get a real insight into your vocal unless you get it recorded properly. all the best Tim

    Grainy/Raspy Voice for recording!?

I'm not convinced there is much to be done post recording, other than accentuate that particular vocal quality if it's already there albeit understated. The closest I've gotten to that kind of sound was pre amping with a tube set up which gave a similar effect when at the time I was after a...

    Suggestions on this mix

The vocal is way too overpowering the track level wise. The music is hard to judge in respect of mix because it's not easy to hear it for any length of time to get an idea of the instrument levels. Drop the vocal back and then it'll be easier to get an idea. all the best Tim

    Execution vs Cosposition

Nothing wrong with a chunk of cheese occasionally, as long as doesn't become the diet of choice ;-) Yes I pondered the synth and it can easily be spirited from the mix at the touch of a button. I can't get up high enough so had to sing it where my voice sits in its lower slot, the solo seems...

    Execution vs Cosposition

I always find it interesting how the various combinations of solid lyrics and emotive performance determine how a song connects with the listener. I'm sure many of us could think of tracks where the lyrics are not immediately that profound but the execution of them makes it all become greater...

    Harlot's Sleeves

Joseph, I think a song writing challenge sounds like a way nudging a few people toward getting some lines together. Personally I've had a lot of work commitments over the last month or two but I often check out this part of the forum. I'm hoping to get writing today and during the few days I...

    writing originals vs. playing covers

Yes, I had some similar experiences a good few years ago when I used to play out, which meant a putting a band together. I quickly learned that it's important to state exactly what you want to do musically from the outset in very clear terms, and establish what the other potential members want...

    New singer - feedback needed

I actually like your voice, albeit the vocal on this track keeps to a tight area of the scale for the most part so hard to see what occurs when it's really stretched. I don't consider myself vocally fantastic but I would say I have a reasonable ear. I'd certainly swap voices with you ;-) as mine...

Getting A PRS shipped in a couple days...question...

I'd be surprised if it would affect the finish unless coming from -30 to a warm environment. I guess it depends on temperature differentials and just how sudden the change takes place. I received my PRS in winter and it was toasty indoors, I stood it on a stand for a couple of hours before...

    Vocals: Transparent mic position

Trouble is, you get your mic sounding how you envisaged it should, then you do vocals for a track and find it's dynamically at odds with the music. Then it's experimenting with compression and EQ, reverb and so on. I've been recording for just over a year and have had to set the vocal up...
