    Mixing in an untreated room

I started into home recording more than 25 years ago, well before DAWs were common in the home environment and well before I knew anything about room treatment. I did eventually learn my mixing environment well enough to where I could do half way decent mixes in it by knowing how to compensate...

New Home Office/Studio - Tall Ceiling & Bass Traps

Thanks. You know, I hadn't thought about "mobile" traps, but that's a fair idea. BTW, in my drawing that one trap that is all the way against the top wall is actually a 4" thick trap at a 45 degree angle between the wall and the ceiling. The other two, I was planning on 2" thick clouds...

    Corner Traps? 12"W x 8' Tall vs. 24"W x 4' Tall???

Yeah, I'd love to, and building more traps isn't the issue as I have more than enough materials to do whatever I want. What I'm asking though is does a 1' wide trap with a height of 8' have the same effectiveness as a 2' wide trap that's only 4' tall. Obviously if both options are 4" thick...

    Corner Traps? 12"W x 8' Tall vs. 24"W x 4' Tall???

I'm moving into a new room and will be rebuilding my existing bass traps for the new space. My new room isn't as large as my last room so I'm looking for ways to minimize the amount of space my traps take up and one thought I've had is that instead of using my current 4"x2'x4' traps in the...

New Home Office/Studio - Tall Ceiling & Bass Traps

So with the above input, I'm thinking something like this? Maybe something between the walls and ceiling on the sides as well? This layout will mean I'll have to rebuild a few of my existing traps, but I think I'll have enough 703 to cover this.

New Home Office/Studio - Tall Ceiling & Bass Traps

I think from a room functionality perspective, that's really the only configuration that will work I guess. I can do a 2'x4'x4" trap up between the back wall and the ceiling and then do the little 30"x2'x4" in the corners above the two doors. Maybe a pair of 2" thick 2'x4' panels on that back wall?

New Home Office/Studio - Tall Ceiling & Bass Traps

I just moved into a new house and the room designated as "mine" has me scratching my head in terms of how to set it up for my recording/mixing needs. It's almost a perfect square at 11'-6" x 11'-4" AND has 9'-6" ceilings. As you can see from the sketch below, the only wall that would allow...

Moving to smaller room - Reducing size of corner traps?

Man... if I have to tell her she's right... I also guess painting the room a lighter color might be a good idea.

Moving to smaller room - Reducing size of corner traps?

Check. Corner setup = no good. I guess I'll have to wait and see once I get into the new room, but even in my old room, all those traps always made the room seem smaller. Interestingly, my wife suggested taking the black burlap off and re-wrapping them all with a lighter color. Could it be...

Moving to smaller room - Reducing size of corner traps?

That's a good point. I wonder about puting the desk into a corner orientation and putting a 2' wide trap on the opposite corner and then using smaller traps in the other two corners. I guess I can do the same sort of frequency analysis on the listening position I did in my last room and then...

Moving to smaller room - Reducing size of corner traps?

I had the good fortune of having a 13'x16' room for quite a while for my home studio. I built 2'x4'x4" Roxul based corner traps and 18"x4'x4" traps to put on the angles between the walls and ceiling. I also had some 2" thick wall hangers of various sizes around the room. I really learned the...

Going Straight to Tape, All in One Room???

Good point on the room. My last space turned out to be incredible for tracking drums and I know every recording I did there was made better by that space. I'm actually in an interesting situation now in terms of location. My wife and I put our house on the market and it sold in about 3 days...

Going Straight to Tape, All in One Room???

My current project is an Irish folk group that consists of acoustic guitar, upright bass (me), drums (small 3-piece kit) and a lead player who switches between mandolin, banjo and accordion. All of us sing as well, sometimes doing some pretty cool 3 part harmony stuff. Our first album was...

I'm not offering them for sale individually. I'm offering them for sale in the FunkLogic rack. Did you notice that? If you want to make an offer for something I'm selling, why not PM me with it as the TOS stipulates rather than post on hear with your opinion of my offerings?

Keeping mixes consistant across an album: is there any other way than this?

Well the term "template" isn't quite what I had hoped. It brings over the names of the tracks but not much else. It does not bring over the individual tracks' volume, EQ, AUX sends, etc. So I think since i owe this band some mixes I'll go back to my way of doing it... too bad, might have been...

Keeping mixes consistant across an album: is there any other way than this?

Gotta say thanks again to Chili! I found exactly what I was looking for. In fact, instead of exporting the entire track template, I am able to export the drum tracks to one file, the guitar to one, etc. With this particular album, I have two very slow, almost haunting songs that require their...
