well, when it comes down to a client situation...then i guess you have to go in the direction they like if that's what they want... I only really record for myself, so having to please someone else is something i've never had to contend with in recording...

if by commercial you mean stuff that's on the radio..then i'd have to say yes it will probably be more commercial. I happen to think the commercial rock sound is shitty though...so whether or not it sounds shitty will be a matter of personal opinion...

the zoom 505 is pretty much a crap pedal. any pedal you hook up is gonna add some noise...the 505 will is the noisiest i've ever used. if that's what you're using i'd say that's the first thing to adjust...and by adjust i mean chuck out a window or sell on ebay to someone who doesn't know any...

are you making your own songs in Acid, or are you making DJ style mix cd's that fade from one song to the next without any gaps?

i'll second goldwave...but i've been using it so long now it's like second nature. I also highly reccomend Carter's suggestion of hitsquad.com They have an amazing array of demos and freeware.

they don't necessarily need to be put in that specific order to work, but if you put an effect like chorus or delay before your distortion the effect will not have the clarity it would if you put it after the distortion. what sile2001 gave you would be the most common order to put them in, but...

I think the decision to take the video off the air is stupid...but in the end it's BET's loss because it's a funny video... I think MJ needs to realize that he is a very public figure, and people are going to talk about him, and people are going to parody him...and it's mostly going to be...

i agree that that is an important part of mixing, but a mono compatible stereo mix and a full out mono mix are two totally different things... you don't hear a lot of mono mixes today, i'm just wondering why someone would make such an odd choice....

i beleive i read the same article...i just love the layering of that song...synths, guitars..dry vocals, breaking glass...it has everything

i would imagine it's as simple as just panning everything to the center.... why for the love of jeebus would you want to mix in mono...?
