I use an SM58 and a lot of compression. if I need some more dimension or space i usually add some delay really quiet in the mix...so you can't really hear it when the music is playing, only if the vocal track(s) is/are soloed. that would be my basic starting point anyway...

for guitars, make sure the mic is right up on the amp...as close to the speaker as you can get. micing the amp from too far away can make it sound "live"

yeah, i'd say cutting the lows and highs would be a good start, and perhaps compress the shit out of it...i guess it also helps if you have one of those "radio" voices... i guess you could also try reamping the vocal through a shit speaker and mic that...that might be interesting

yeah...when I use delay it's usually in that U2 "integral to the sound" way... plus i am more a songwriter than a recordist, and don't usually have the patience to go over something again and again to make it "perfect"

i usually just record the delay to tape. I just like the way it sounds coming out of the amp, and it can affect the way i play certain parts...
