at what point does a person lose "Newbie" status?

Two pointless posts are better that one.

What do you think music fans think?

I wouldn't say that Bon Jovi was a hit maker...but good luck anyway.

at what point does a person lose "Newbie" status?

Ah...one more on the total. Remember...A newbie by number does not always equal a newbie by mind...

    Contracts and Royalties

From what I understand...If the Manager is acting as a Producer as well, then their situation is sort of like an Artist-Development deal. In an A-D deal, it is typical that the producer will take a 50% cut...but, it is also typical that the producer would be the one paying for the studio time...

Gordon Raphael "the Strokes" 's producer in SOS

Cool Out Charger So you don't like the Strokes, big deal. I'm not their biggest fan either and they are definitely not the "second coming" or anything like that. But, hey, I still enjoy the album on occasion. There is no need to be bitter over the fact that all the bands you named have...

    new to recording... help....

Yo Timandjes, Just so you know...you can probably find some helpful micing tips in the microphone thread. The easiest way to mic a piano would be by using a spaced pair of condesner mics, preferably cardioid pattern. Position one aimed at the low strings and one aimed at the high strings...

    Kramer

I have a 1970's Kramer Bass. You know, the kind with the aluminum backed neck and the forked head stock. It weights about 20 lbs but it rocks. Let me just say...it sounds like it weights 20lbs...thick and in your face.

Marshalls on sale at Mars really cheap.

Thanks for the info...I'll be trying them out very soon. Are the ECM8000's anything like the Earthworks omni mics?

Marshalls on sale at Mars really cheap.

Hey, ChuckU... Where did you find those ECM8000's for that price? I've been looking around and I can't seem to find any place that is selling them.

    Recording piano music

If you don't want to use that many mics, you can set up a spaced pair of condensers...one to each side of the piano...1-4 feet above the strings. One aimed over the low strings and one over the high strings. Nothing fancy but it will work.

Kick Drum Head - Off or On ?

On...without the resonant head you lose all definition to the sound.

Gordon Raphael "the Strokes" 's producer in SOS

So does "true" rock n roll have to sound like any 1980's Def Leppard cock rock album or can it be a little different? Maybe some of you guys should let go of the classic rock stations and lend an ear toward something that sound a little different. Is everyone out there trying to make their...

    Miking Snare Played With Brushes

Snare with brushes I recently recorded a jazz session where the drummer played with almost exclusively with brushes. What I did was double top mic the snare. I used an sm57 a little farther back than I normally would for rock drums and, right next to it, I used a Neumann TLM170 set to...

Best recorded drum sound (w/apologies to the guitar thread)

Karate!!! The best drum sounds I've heard would be on Karate's third album, The Bed Is In The Ocean. Amazing room sounds. Well, check out any Karate album for that matter.
