    50 Cent

Rappers aint be dumb Ahhh... Y'all'd be suprised at how much effort goes into true freestyling... Try it sometime. Just go ahead and rap for about 5-10 minutes to some random beat, making it up as you go along. As for 50c, who knows. Gotta have that voice first. I think he's grunting or...

Piano Bench I padded a nice piano bench, and now it sits in the corner of my studio full o' mics.. Very Very soon, the padding will move to a nice lockable wall-mountable heavy steel box that I got.....

Best Mic For Recording Rap Vocals?

Shouldn't sound THAT bad.... What you have now is 'prosumer' and it shouldn't sound terrible. It probably won't sound like pro, but it shouldn't sound like total crap.... Got a sound clip?

Why do I need to be so close to 0db?

Thats Right - - A high noise floor is bad... But digital clipping is much much much much worse.

    Class A solid state electronics

Class A - Class B Class B will take a signal and split it in half and amplify the two halves. Then the signal is re-spliced on the output. Occasionally there is distortion where the two halves meet back up if both sides of the amplifier don't EXACTLY match. In a well designed system, you won't...

Why do I need to be so close to 0db?

How about noise floor? All equipment has a noise floor.... What I'm looking for is dynamic range above the noise floor. Say my noise floor is at @-100+dB. That's the level that all the noise from the transistors and the power and RF interference etc. is at in this theoretical recording chain...

    What should I build?

I've built stuff before.... I'm pretty good with designing amplification stages, etc..... I did do one opto with a UV-phototransistor and UV-photodiode in the feedback loop. Sounded very 'diode'-ey Right now I have designed a 150k ohm input stage that amplifies 3-4dB and a neat little diode...

    What should I build?

I picked up a double sized empty guitar pedal box with a switch on it, and I'm looking for suggestions on what to build. Only stipulations: 1) 9V Battery Powered 2) I want to design and build it from scratch. 3) Ummm... Ummmm..... What would you want? A compressor? Tremelo? Distortion? What?

    Behringer C-1 Condenser

Holier than thou? Perhaps I'm not the one who's holier than thou.... I use Chinese goods, of course. They all have their place. I like my handmade tube & ribbon mics though. Made them myself. My A*P*I 312s and my Fairchild preamps are American made if I'm not mistaken. My Dukane...

    vocal compression????

Mess Around With IT You never know what you're going to need - - - It varies from vocal to vocal. Buckle down, do a search and read about it by searching Google or here at the forum. I have friends who don't need compression on their voice. I personally like the fat sounding 3:1 -12dB type...

    Behringer C-1 Condenser

Why it's so cheap: Because it's a cost & corner cutting design both engineering and material-wise stamped out in China by underpaid workers.

    SM-81 Problem

The ground is shorted Something's not grounded right. Look for loose connections between the capsule and body, etc. Look for loose wires. Use a Volt-Ohm-Meter to test continuity between leads. I had a grounding problem on a mic once, turned out the body had come disconnected from the ground...

    where to place the D112

I've heard of broken d112's A friend of mine in Minnesota was playing a gig - - - The bass drum D112 just popped and has never worked right again. I've had dynamics go because: a There are tiny metal filings between the magnet and the diaphragm b The tiny little wires inside of the...
