How do I get more "unique" effects?

hey, jr which Ring Modulator would you recommend? I'd love to find a good cheap one to cause sonic chaos.

    Surf Guitars

    Cleaning my mk488II

*gulp!* Hmmm, I think Tascam charges more if you buy direct than buying from somewhere else...but oh well, you may have lost a few C notes. Alls well that ends well, at least you got what you need to get recording! That's what counts :) Welcome to the board my friend.

December 31 I believe -- it's in the December catalog.

    What "mags" do you read

Where can I subscribe to that Home Recording mag? Never seen it in stores.

    Cleaning my mk488II

First off, definately get the Teac demagnetizer. Do not use the tapes, they could possibly damage the unit. As far as cleaners go, you need isopropanol (sp?) alcohal to clean the heads and capstan post. For cleaning the pinch roller, use only the Tascam rubber cleaner. One bottle for $10 will...

    mic sales at Guitar Center

Just for the record Wes, did you buy the matched pair from The Sound Room? And I believe Recording Engineer has used the large diaphragm cap for the MC012 and he highly recommends it. Just do a search on this forum for MC012 and I guarantee you Rec Eng has a say in each post about it. He prolly...

    mic sales at Guitar Center

Oh Recording Engineeeeer! Well, I'll take Recording Engineer's job here and tell you that the Octava MC012's are better -- but not from Guitar Center. You see, Guitar Center gets the "left overs" if you will, from Octava. They are 90% of the time not as good as the ones you get directly from...

    UPGRADING MY STUDIO

Just a side note, if you plan on upgrading, if I were you I'd go with an AMD Thunderbird CPU and an Abit KT7 motherboard. The Thunderbird has been benchmarked as fast or faster than an equally clocked Intel and they run half the price. You can get 800Mhz for like $130.

    8 I/O Sound Card?

I've been daydreaming of the computer recording world, wondering how much stuff would cost and what to get. If I were to use my computer for recording I'd want to hook up a Mackie 1604VLZ Pro to it, and have 8 ins and 8 outs. I think the 1604 uses RCA in/out, not totally sure, I don't own one...

    AMD processor?

AMD is the rival to Intel. They both put out quality CPUs (especially the modern AMD Athlon/Duron/Thunderbird vs the Pentium 3/4) and are both compatible with PC-based software. The only real difference is that the AMD I believe (with the K6-2) are SLIGHTLY slower than an equivalently rated...

What mics to buy for vocals and acoustic guitar?

4033 I will jump the gun and say that most people around these parts will recommend the Audio Tecnica AT4033. Some may suggest the Octava MC012 (from The Sound Room only - http://www.sound-room.com/) with the M1/M3 head which would be used for vocals.

spacey tones, funky pedals, and idiosyncratic stomp boxs

Looking for some freaky crazy sounds? Listen to Sonic Youth, especially from Washing Machine onward, they use some crazy spacey stuff. Example: MXR Phase 90 (or 100) and the MXR Blue Box. The Blue Box will give you crazy fuzz/octave sound, that sounds really crazy when paired with the Phase...

    Making T-Shirts!

Thanks to all the responses, I'd be glad to hear of more sites. I'm checking out the many options now. CMiller, it looks like with that CafePress.com site, I'd have to set up an online store on their site in order to sell my stuff? Or is there a way I can have the shirts shipped to me to sell at...

    Good Books?

I'm looking for a good book on general music law/marketing subjects...a book that'll give me some idea as in what I need to do/know to manage my band...how to market CDs and such, how to give credit, copyright, etc. I've narrowed it down to two books, both of which sound like very good books...

What'd you do in this situation?

How about the NT1/NT3 for overhead, NT1/NT3 for guitar amp, SM57 for snare, SM57 for kick, and bass direct? Going direct with the bass will probably give you the best sound, since that's what most people do most of the time anyway. I have two NT1s (at one time, I had one), and I used a single...

    Making T-Shirts!

Well, the printer is an Epson 870, about the best photo printer on the market for consumers...so I can print some very sweet stuff on it, as long as the graphic on the computer is good quality (nice BMP or somethin)

    Making T-Shirts!

What would I have to do to get some t-shirts made for my band? I suppose I could prolly print out the transfers on my sweet printer, but I'd prolly have to buy some t-shirts bulk...I just want to compare prices between my do-it-yourself option and my have-someone-do-it option. Anyone have some URLs?

    Modifying Pedals

I know there's people out there that modify pedals...anyone know of any websites of people who do this? I'm just curious to know if it'd be possible to modify my MXR Blue Box to put in a switch or knob for the fuzz to make it optional. That would be sweet as hell...
