    Made in America?

Well that's a New Zealand company, but seeing I included Russell Crowe in my last post, I suppose I could say we're all from down under! ;)

    Condensers for ...

It seems to me the the standard rounded fibreglassed backed Ovation was really developed for live amplified use. Acoustically they lack the boominess associated with conventional acoustics (read Martin dreadnought! ;)) which makes them more forgiving on stage re feedback, unfortunately they...

    Made in America?

I've decided to make an attempt at restoring the economy by purchasing only Australian produced products from now on. When I say "Australian produced", I mean designed and built in 'Oz'. These are the companies and artists that I know of. Please add more to the list. Next time you get ready to...

The recommended capsule is the AKG C12 (current version). There has been discussion over at recording.org...'Tech Talk'...about using Chinese capsules as an alternative. A dual diaphragm capsule from Soundking in China has been suggested as a possibilty. Another thread in 'Tech Talk' DIY forum...

    mic constructon article

Not yet but I'm on my way!! I've printed out the pcb artwork on clear sheet for the G7 tube mic and am ordering parts. The biggest decision will be what capsule I use. The AKG C12 capsule, as specified, is NOT the same as the C12 capsule used back in the 50's and early 60's in the original C12...

    Sound module for Yamaha KX88?

I recently purchased a Yamaha KX88 controller keyboard. While it will predominantly used in the studio with Gigastudio, I was considering in getting some kind of a sound module to use with it so I'm not always tied to a computer. I'm not exactly a keyboard player (I'm a guitarist) but it was...

    CMV563 versus Behringer B1

Actually I read a story about a couple of guys that made several trips to some of the Eastern Bloc countries a few years back and bought up shitloads of old Neumanns, AKG's, Telefunkens, Gefells etc for absolutely obscenely low prices from defunct, mainly Government owned, studios and radio...

    Which Mic

About THAT yellow!! ;) On a more serious note it's true it does depend on what you intend recording. I would actually consider the multipattern SP's B3 as a pretty versatile all rounder. Neither too dear or too hyped. You would do well not to fall into the 'newbies' trap of buying the...

    AKG C1000s

I have no idea! ;) The company was originally called 'Beyer Dynamic'. However they do produce condenser mics as well. I think they may have dropped the 'dynamic' from their name these days. My mistake! I got the NT4 and the NT5's ass about! The interchangeable capsules are a definate bonus!

    AKG C1000s

I take it you mean a Beyer M201? Although this is a dynamic mic it is a very good one. Often used in preference to a SM57 on snare where a crisper slightly more hi-fi sound is required. Being a hypercardioid it can sound good when close miking toms too. Actually works pretty well on acoustic...

    AKG C1000s

I'm not familiar with the NT3. You have somewhat of a hardcall with your choice of mics and your ability to audition anything else. My feelings are you shouldn't choose your mics based on whether you are going to record to digital or analog. The mic itself and the type of recording you intend...

    AKG C1000s

While I'm not famliar with the recording you mention, I think Harvey covered the point that any mic with a certain characteristic can work well in the situation where it's own coloration compliments the source. This is the catch when choosing one mic for a general 'one size fits all' situation...

    AKG C1000s

To me it's become pretty obvious over the past few years, especially with the boom in home recording. Manufacturers have turned to where the money is.... the ever growing, high turnover home studio market! They are targeting, in the main, 'unexperienced ears' who are starting out and need to...

MPX 500 or Reverb plug in

Not neccessarily. If you generate a single digital sample (ie 1/44,100 or 1/48,00 etc) and send it to the digital input of a quality hardware unit, TC Lexicon etc. you can sample any reverb algorithm you choose by sending the effected sample back out of the digital output of the reverb into the...
