    REVERB Dilema

For those looking for a high end reverb sound in a project studio then the TC Reverb 4000 is about to be released. It's basically a single engined stripped down TC M6000 which kicks some serious ass! I think it may be around the $4K mark though, which is still serious dollars.... but if...

    mixing board pre amps

Just to add to the above, the job of a microphone preamplifier is to amplify the very low output of most microphones (usually only a few millivolts) up to line level. ie the nominal signal level of most bits of audio gear after the mic preamplifier... tape decks, FX units, compressors etc. The...

    mixing board pre amps

Re: Re: Re: mixing board pre amps All of the above! Just as with mics, you can have very accurate uncolored pres that would be more suitable for recording say classical music where accurate reproduction is generally considered paramount. Here low noise, when recording quiet instruments at a...

    mixing board pre amps

In a even a modern $50,000 console the budget for the micpre components could be under $10 per channel. So it stands to reason both in logical terms and from experience that, with a few exceptions, a $500 outboard pre will most likely perform better than pres in a $50,000 board. Do the math on...

Converting Soundfonts for use in sampler/sound module? Okay I have a Yamaha KX88 and I'm looking for a sound module/sampler to use with it. I have a number of soundfonts in my PC that I really like. Here's my question... using something like Awave can I convert my soundfonts into a format...

    REVERB Dilema

Do you have the M-One 'XL' or just the M-One? The reverb algorithms are improved in the 'XL' version. Besides reverbs are subjective... I tend to prefer the 'TC' sound myself. YMMV ;)

    How do you pronounce neuman?

    Q. How do you know when it's bedtime at Michael Jackson's house? A. When the big hand touches the little hand! Q. What does a guy with a bad case of flatulence and MJ have in common? A. They both blow bubbles in the bath! I'm outta here!

    Cheapest Overall setup- semi emergency

Budget for say a least $500. Rehearse until you wanna puke... make sure ALL your instruments are in top condition ie strings, drum heads, in tune etc and then book time in a pro studio. Go for no more than four songs... in fact three songs pulled off well is probably the best bet. Be prepared so...

    Who has a Neumann U87 ?

Well I don't have an U87 but I have a U77 which is a 'T' powered version FET multipattern that was made in 1967 about the time when the U87 was first released. Pic here... Neumann U77 If you are interested in purchasing a U87 look for a pre 'AI' version. Much nicer mic IMO. ;)

Studio Projects B1 Vocal EQ Tweaking?

Doh!! The B1 is cardioid ONLY... it's the B3 that's the multipattern!

Studio Projects B1 Vocal EQ Tweaking?

If you are recording in cardioid mode the proximity effect (bass lift) will reduce as you increase the distance from the source. This will drop off quite rapidly at twelve inches or so inches from the mic until the bass response is actually below a that of a flat response. Alternately an omni...

    Ssssssibilance

Firstly the NT1000 is a fairly bright mic. Secondly.... 1. What sound card are you using? 2. How close are you to the mic? 3. Are you using any eq when recording? 4. How are you connecting the output of your mixer into your soundcard? 5. Do you have a compressor? 6. Do you have inserts...

Where is the breakline between lexicons amature and pro stuff?

Yes the PCM series Lexicon gear is the more serious stuff. If you don't have a huge budget I would actually consider auditioning a TC Electronic M-One XL I chose this over a Lexicon MPX-550. IMO the it just puts more 'air' around everything. How the Lexicon MPX-1 compares I can't say. A...

    Made in America?

Here in Australia it's extremely difficult not to buy something that's made in China. For example if you walk into a clothing shop I would extimate at least 80% of the stock is made in China, and that applies to every store in the country! Footware is no different. Then there's electrical...

    It's true about stereo recording....

Melbourne... well about fifty kms east of the city in the Dandenong Ranges! :) Studio Projects mics have been thin on the ground here for a while. There has been severe stock shortages resulting in considerable back orders. I ordered two C3's back in December for a friend and cancelled the...
