Need some tips from people who has dreams on recording a song for all to here

Most people don't need a hardware mixer. Multiple inputs directly to computer, and record each input on its own track. Mix down in the box. Reaper is very popular budget software.

Jan~ Feb Challenge: contributions in here

The last line of the verse was a major problem for me vocally. The intention was that it would be a long drawn-out thing, but I just couldn't pull it off. Might reload the 4 tracker and see if I can do a punch-in on just this bit. Happy that I pulled off the haunting atmosphere thing. My...

Could anyone remove the pops from this track asap!!?

Audacity - Effects - Click removal. Remaining pops you can zoom in, highlight, then go Effects - Repair. Done this lots of times transcribing vinyl to CD.

Please be patient! This download hasn't been cleared yet. Please check back tomorrow. WTF? UPDATE: My browser won't talk to my audio system, so I can't play anything directly. I do, however, have the download helper installed. So I can click on play, then download. Which I did. Nice guitar...

    bias preamp tubes?

Generally speaking, no. Preamps are usually Kathode biased, which tends to be self-correcting.

What's a good program for converting to mp3?

Yes, different programs will use different algorithms to generate an MP3, so they may sound different. Try upping the bitrate. Many people use 320 K. 128 really is pretty low.

http://www.box.net/shared/tsj4y9v6to Vocals are even crappier than my normal vocals, as I've had a raging throat infection for weeks. Even on a good day, I'm still trying to figure out how to record my vocals to be passable. Acoustic guitar gets twangy & buzzy in a couple of spots. And yes...

    Covers: Faithful or Interpretation

I think there is one issue here which hasn't been mentioned. Playing a cover "live", and comparing that to the heavily processed original version played on the radio. I'm sure we've all seen bands try and play their own stuff live, with some spectacular failures.

    Best way to record acoustics?

You're already using Audacity. File -- Export -- (fill in the data fields) & click OK. Now select "mp3" in the drop down file type selector box.

    What have you pioneered ?

Well............... you've got me confused. A to Bb is one semitone (up one fret). How you put a capo on the third fret & played it in G is totally beyond me. Maybe what you pioneered is a totally new system of music ?????? [insert appropriate smiley here]

    favourite songwriters

Very big in Australia & South Africa in the 70's, only recently discovered in his homeland of the USA, was Sixto Diaz Rodriguez (aka Jesus Rodriguez). Sugar Man & Establishment Blues would be 2 of my favourite lyrics. But there are other song writers who write hard-hitting social commentary...

    Tube question

EL34's might be overkill for an 18 watt amp. And aren't they a different socket?

    Jan/Feb challenge ~ Part2 ~ The draw

It had better be, because I've taken the liberty of changing some of yours. And up-fiddler is changing the context of my song to the 3rd person. Amanda

How can you tell good cables from bad ones with a multimeter.

You'll also find it helpful to have a second set of multimeter leads with alligator clip ends rather than probes. Holding probes against the connector while shaking the cable all about is really difficult.

Intense feedback as gain turned up and I'm not playing anything

This does happen with hollow body guitars. I have seen semi-acoustics (ES335 style) stuffed full of that sound absorbing wadding used in speaker boxes for this very reason. Move the guitar away from the speaker box, turn the volume down, or use a parametric eq to put a notch at the feedback...

Fast Food Angel - Bubblegummy ballad original

As always, Greg, your musicianship and production is way up there. First impressions, Ramones on a slow day. Your professionalism, I'm sure, is a two edged sword. On the one hand, I'm inspired to lift my game and do better. On the other hand, I fear I could struggle for a lifetime, and never...

Battery Powered Pedal board - ground loop

On a "off the top of the head, rule of thumb" value, I would have gone an order of magnitude bigger than 1 ohm. 10 ohm, 47 ohm, even 100 ohms.

Now, that sounds like the title of a song.
