    uploading music to computer

MP3's are not for critical listening at all. They are meant and thought of as background music. I don't know anybody who critically listens to music that uses MP3. I have an iPod, and I like to keep everything in WAV format. It takes up space, but like RAK said, the extra bits make a...

    Shure KSM27...

I forgot to mention that I have recorded a dog with the 27 as well. I do like the C1000s as overheads. I have also used the Rode NT5's and been pleased with what came out of that. Not the greatest high-end in those, but for what I was doing they worked great as overheads.

I'd like to use Reason 3.0 on my laptop. Not sure if it's capable.

The latency is an issue with this type of set-up. I have been using Reason 3.0 on a Powerbook G4 (1.25 ghz) with an M-Audio MIDI controller for a while, My PB has 1 gb of RAM in it. I use the M-Audio USB to MIDI cable for this. Yes, there is latency there (probably about 30 ms, which is a lot in...

    Mac (G4) Garage Band; singing

Garageband: Not featured enough to do what you describe here. You can plug in a MIDI controller and play with the patches, but is as far as it goes. Singing: It seems perhaps you can't hear yourself well enough while singing. Either that or your breath support is lacking. Are you holding back...

    Shure KSM27...

Radiohead uses the KSM27 as overheads on the drum kit in the live set-up. I know other bands do too, but this is one I am most familiar with. They sound awesome in the house at the shows. I have also used the 27 on acoustic guitar, mandolin, hand drums, voice, electric guitar, kick drum, piano...

should i record vocals in mono or stereo?

I would record vocals in mono as well. Like people said before, sending the main vocal track to a stereo aux track with delays or reverb will "widen" the image for you. Recording vocals in "stereo" seems a little excessive. Also, I read up there that someone records everything in stereo. Are...

Mixing Stereo Mics to a Mono channel

I was tipped off to the Walters issue yesterday as well. My comment about seconding RAK's comparision to Zoolander was to let Walters know we are on to him. Whatever it is he is doing. Southside - Thanks for welcoming us to the board. We enjoy spending hours of company time chatting with you guys.

Cubase has a lot of signal processing built into the program, so you won't need any outboard gear to start. Also, these interfaces that mentioned actually have pre-amps built into them as well. You can change the impedence of these inputs to match what you are tracking. Cubase will also allow...

Whats The Effect For The Vocals For Many Voices..

    You don't rap. Obviously. Geez.

    Eliminating room reverbs in recordings...

Another way is to use a closet. I am not sure what instruments you are tracking, but putting a mic in front of some clothes and singing into used to work well for me back in the day. Then there is always the un-verb plug-in. :)

Alright, then USB is the way to go. You can get devices starting at around $99. They will allow you to plug in mics/insturments/whatever and record. Check out the Tascam US-122. It is a decent unit for it's price. Also, M-Audio makes a variety of entry-level interfaces. The Fast Track USB is...

no, it doesn't sound like a group of people, but it does add a beef to the sound. i hear it in Dr. Dre stuff a lot.

Whats The Effect For The Vocals For Many Voices..

I agree with the caps on every word. Very hard to read. Farview - that would be another way to achieve it. Something else I have heard in rap recordings is using the same performance, and off setting them. Meaning having one start early, and one start later. Also, I have heard pitch shifting...

Farview - I think they are a few ways to achieve this though without performing several times. Would you like to discuss?

That's all I really needed. This should be enough to start out, although I would consider getting some more RAM and also an external hard disk for the audio you record. On to interfaces. Do you have a firewire port available? If not, USB will be just fine. What is your budget? What do you hope...

Whats The Effect For The Vocals For Many Voices..

Short delay could be a way to achieve this type of vocal sound. Another way would be to record the voice several different times and sqaush them together. What you are hearing there has a lot of compression on it. I think there is also some delay split out to stereo tracks. Meaning the main...

Welcome to the board! A couple things that would help out would be to know what kind of computer you have? Operating system and so forth. From there we can start to figure out what is best for you.
